Man, it was just a few weeks ago that everyone got all scared about a tropical storm named Eduardo, now we've got Gustav heading into the Gulf of Mexico, and he's already a hurricane?! So, today marked the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which kinda left my boyfriend a bit scarred (he was born and raised in New Orleans, and didn't leave until after the hurricane) and last I read (about 15 minutes ago) they're predicting a Cat 3-4 and it'll be in N.O. around Monday-Tuesday. ...Poor New Orleans. But also...uhm...the unpredictability of hurricanes scares me, because -we- are on watch for the hurricane too. I've..uhm...never had to deal with a hurricane before. We have blizzards in the mountains, not hurricanes. I'm kind of nervous! They're thinking it's going to hit Louisiana first, then as it moves inland and decreases in strength it'll be over Houston, though their damn predictions change every couple of hours. >.< Supposedly if it follows that route it'll only be a tropical storm when it gets here, but that's still a bit scary for me. *L* Looks like it might be time to batten down the hatches, if baby boy doesn't drag me out of the city. He gets really nervous bout storms (and understandably so, considering all the horrible stuff I've read about Katrina) and every time there's a threat he starts talking about getting us out of Texas. *L* He told me the other night "If this hurricane is gonna hit here, we're going to Cali for a few days". I didn't have a choice in the matter, apparently. I get the impression he'd drag me kicking and screaming out of here if a hurricane was definitely on it's way. Ah well. Hopefully all will be good and I'll at least get a day or two off class again! I'd love to get out of Intro to Audio (stupid audio engineering class -_-. I'm going to be an animator, not an audio engineer!!) So, after all that, here's a question for those of you around coastal areas: hurricanes, should I be scared, or not? I've never lived so close to an ocean (or gulf, as the case may be) so I'm not sure what to think.
You don't have to go all the way to Cali...just go north to Dallas ( 8) )...we will get a good soaking of rain from all of the moisture but none of the high wind etc. The state is big enough that you can stay in state and avoid serious weather....lots of evacuees will be sent here..and to Fort Worth, Ennis, Plano etc.
Of course I don't. but he] does. You see, that's where his mom is. *rme* And apparently when it comes to hurricanes "reason" is not something he's willing to hear anymore. Though I can understand. People's minds work in weird ways when they get scared. Panic doesn't do well for rational thought.
