Hurrican Sandy

I just saw on the news that the east coast is supposed to get hit by a nor'easter on Tuesday, and cleanup and recovery from Sandy is barely underway. The hits just keep on coming. Praying for those on the east coast, especially NY/NJ.

By his BS logic, the farmers in Australia who have been suffering from drought and losing their farms also deserved it

 

It IS comparable.

For an area that doesn't get hurricanes bad like this... it can be compared to Florida (or anywhere in the warmer states really) getting a freak snowstorm. If your area didn't have to deal with it before, they're not going to have the salt/sawdust/calcium/whatever ready to make the roads less slippery, would not have the right equipment for clearing the roads, etc.
New York's used to getting the snow and can deal with that aspect, the same way other states are better equipped to deal with hurricanes.

Back home, getting a ton of snow overnight is nothing... I've woken up to 2 feet of fresh snow, still had to get dressed and go to school. There's scheduled dates that on-street parking is banned. There's dates that they start preparing the snow clearing equipment for the long winter ahead.... because they KNOW it's coming.
Yet, when hurricane igor hit my area, many roads that lead to small outport towns were washed out, leaving the towns completely without supplies/access to hospitals because it's not something that typically happens.

The point isn't the type of weather or whatever, it's that different areas get hit with disasters and learn to adapt to them... while others don't get hit the same way, and do not need the same measures in place.

Eventually we'll all suffer unless the world leaders make a move to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and slow down global warming. I hope we're all aware that's why we have these things happening.

And isn't Christie a Republican Governor? Are you saying he doesn't care about his residents?(care mind you, that got the President to come visit his State). Btw, what party is the Governor of NY? (rhetorical)

Dudes its not without merit. The entire GOP mantra is individualism. I can do it all on my own. No government needed here. Its the mindset of the party, its their principle. There are only beautiful bipartisan moments when a Dem is in charge ever notice that? You see it as you like. Until I actually see more moderates elected who aren't swept up by the idea that all gov is bad, and who think just let the free markets determine everything I'd be more inclined to agree with you.
The party is complete dominated by the fringe and it shows, but to each his own. I see them has evil incarnate, you see them as misunderstood. Whatevs
