Controversial doctor Panayiotis Zavros announced on Tuesday that he has cloned 14 human embryos and impregnated four women with 11 of them, The Independent writes. Cloning was recorded in a documentary filmed by Peter Williams, who confirmed for the Independent that women hope to become pregnant with the first cloned embryos. The documentary was made for the Discovery Channel and will be aired today. He says he witnessed the cloning process at a secret laboratory. There is absolutely no doubt about it, and I may not be the one that does it, but the cloned child is coming. There is absolutely no way that it will not happen. If we intensify our efforts we can have a cloned baby within a year or two, but I don't know whether we can intensify our efforts to that extent. We`re not really under pressure to deliver a cloned baby to this world. What we are under pressure to do is to deliver a cloned baby that is a healthy one. Doctor Panayiotis Zavos Human cloning is banned in Great Britain, as well as many other countries, therefore it is assumed that Zavos works in a secret laboratory somewhere in the Middle East. Zavoc plans to focus on cloning exclusively Zavos is of American origin, while his patients include three married couples and a woman from Great Britain and the USA. According to him, this is just the first step and he is planning to focus on cloning babies from the parents` skin cells exclusively. Dolly the sheep was cloned after 277 attempts, however, animal cloning became effective after this even though many scientists still believe it is dangerous. Girl Cods resurrected Zavos also said he has produced cloned embryos of three dead persons, including 9-year-old girl named Cody, who died in a car accident. He did this after the grief-struck relatives asked him for his services. Cody`s blood cells were frozen and sent to doctor Zavos. Furthermore, he has conducted research with eggs taken from cattle, which is to help him in the further process of cloning. He said he is not panning to create a human-animal hybrid, but will use it as a model. Otherwise, Zavos collaborates with Karl Illmeness, who is famous for his long-term work on cloning. They already have ten young couples who are supposed to be the parents of the cloned babies. Zavos claimed in 2004 that he has inserted a cloned embryo in a woman`s womb, but he did not have evidence. He did not get the proper media coverage and blames scientists who oppose cloning for the lack of media interest. However, he has now produced several cloned embryos and fertilized women with them.
