lippy's take on gabourey is that she will get a few roles immediately but it won't last...the role that she played in precious had so many parallels to her own life that it wasn't really a best actress performance...she grew up fat...she didn't gain weight to play the role...the casting director knew who he was looking for and the day she walked in she was already that character...do you really think that the character that monique played isn't somewhere or somehow close to something she may have experienced in her own life...or at least witnessed?

a best actress performance is when someone does a role that is so far from who they are in their own life...many times based on a real story, they meet with the person they are portraying...learn about them...how they talk...walk...mannerisms...etc...i don't see where gabby had to do much more than memorize a script...she played herself in much of the movie
