Damn why does the brother always have to have a criminal past.

 

Because mainstream America loves to see us play those roles.

 

Agree it is so lame, tired and what not that he has to have a criminal past. I think when it comes to IR moves the BM is often given that role (thug, ex now turned around drug dealer, baby daddy and any other bad stereotype we can think about) so they can avoid the "elephant in the room" and not make the movie what it's really about, the fact that mainstream america has an issue with a BM dating a WW. So let's ease their conscience and have them oppose to the relationship in the movie because he is a thug and not because he is black.
