Didn't see it posted here, but the CW show Hellcats has an interracial relationship between Aly Michalka's character and Robbie Jones' character. Aly is very nice looking and I was surprised that they would match her up with a black guy like that
I'm confused...you're surprised they'd match her up with a black guy like what? Is it that she's a nice looking white girl with a black guy or that they'd pair a white girl with a black guy in general? Would you clarify your meaning, please.
I meant that I'm surprised that the producers would match her up with a black guy. There are certain types of white girls that Hollywood seems to keep away from any type of relationship with black guys and she seems to fit that mold. Secondly, she is the show's main character. The IR is usually reserved for the second fiddle/BFF character if they have it at all. I was about to use Jennifer Aniston as an example, but I suspect that she just may break the mold in her new movie 'Horrible Bosses' (although it will not be a relationship, it would still potentially be huge for Jennifer Aniston to even share a scene with a BM, much less have any type of sex - implied or otherwise)
Thanks for clearing that up. Honestly, you had me worried for a minute that you might be thinking in the other direction. I'm glad you're not. I've watched the show a couple of times (I don't watch a lot of tv these days) & I think it's a good setting for a good interracial relationship. Although there are more IR in movies, ads & tv than before, there's definitely not enough. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, there will be more IR in the mainstream. Btw, welcome to the site!
These TV producers can surprise you sometimes. The ABC show "Private Practice" has the leading actress involved in a relationship with Taye Diggs' character. Surprised the hell out of me when I came across it since the last time I watched that show, he had remarried his black ex-wife. Just goes to show we are indeed making progress (slow though it may be to some), and while it may not always be evident because the ignorance always takes center stage, acceptance of IR relationships is growing larger and larger with each new generation. Hell, here in NY, you can't go one week w/o running into at least one IR couple going about their day and no one, much less the fabled "angry sista", looks twice at them.
Thanks! I look forward to participating as I am a black man and I love white women You mentioned that you'd seen some ads with IR in it. I haven't seen that - at least not IR involving black/white (even with WM/BW). Perhaps I am overlooking it
Well, times are changing. That's for sure. Aly Michalka is really attractive and have come a long way. Actually, Hillary Duff was in a movie called "According to Greta" and she was involved with a black guy in that movie.
Yes I saw that. Forgot about that one. I must say that I was a little more surprised at Aly Michalka because she is the stereotypical type (young, blonde, blue eyes) that they seem to "protect"
Fuck...Aly Michalka's so damn hot. Whew! That's why I enjoy Hellcats more and more. I hope that by next year, they'll release series one! I'm so going to get it!
This is the only one I can think of at the moment...I noticed it this summer:
Wow...and no mistaking that they are in a relationship either. I would have expected something where one could also interpret that the couple are just friends.
It's sickening, isn't it? All I have to say to the negative comments is, "Fuck 'em!", because we shouldn't give a rat's ass what they think. Sadly, much of our society thinks that way; they're too stupid to understand that all people come from the same place. We can't let hateful, small-minded idiots & their bs get us down. I'm not going to allow them any power to interfere with my happiness, and you shouln't either.
Darkseid,I will not hold my breath for Jennifer Anniston to lock lips with a brother in Horrible Bosses or any movie she appears in. It would be a big surprise if it happens.
I agree, but it seems like a big step for Aniston to do even implied sex with a black man (in this case Jamie Foxx). In the movie it seems that Foxx's character (named "Motherfucker Jones") will be hired to kill Aniston (whose character is a sex maniac) and Jones will fail. Looks like a formula for some sex between them (probably implied). I'm wondering if they will be brave enough to make her the "curious white girl" type in that role being that she will be a sex maniac. We will see...Even if it happens (on any level) this is far different from a relationship, but for Aniston would be surprising to me. Last year's The Bounty Hunter was the first time I'd ever known her to even share the screen with a black man. (All that said, I still like Jennifer Aniston) I am always a little pessimistic, but, I didn't think they would put Jamie Foxx with Jessica Biel last year in Valentine's Day. To my (pleasant) surprise, they did.
Maybe i'm a harsh critic, but as far as movies go any implied IR they can keep. To me it's pretty unimpressive in terms of actual progress. If this movie SHOWS Aniston at least kiss a BM, i'll acknowledge it as progress. If it's all implied with no showing of anything physical at all then they may as well not even do it imo.
Jennifer Aniston did kiss a brother! Jennifer Aniston kissed a brother in the movie, "The Object of My Affection". It was at the end and it was a quickie. It was also a "stage kiss". The brother was Kevin Carroll. Don't make me explain a stage kiss again. Nobody believes me.
