Thats a great idea but like i have said countless times on this site, i really do not need Hollywood nor anyone for that matter to dictate to me what i already know exists. They do not wanna show IR at the movies, big deal? I do not think its the greatest idea but i certainly do see where they are coming from. The "middle class white man" does not want to pay to see "his woman" get cozy with "his number one enemy". Thats mutiny at its apex   He will not be able to relate to that at all   As for me, i do not need any movie director to "portray" something i know really exists. The mere fact that it does exists in reality is enough for me.
I seen this first hand . . . in Jamaica In my many travels to Negril, Jamaica I have seen this happening alot not only in Haiti and Jamaica but all over the Caribbean. Go to Hedonism II and III.
Wow Kid...Jeez, your post just amazed me...this is incredible coming from an American and I have to clap, clap, clap!! :smt038 With all the ppl I hear say here that there is sooo much more freedom in the US and that it isn`t hypocritical...your analysis is so true...it is ok to show someone get beheaded by a bomb in an action movie, on prime time...but just seeing one tit stirs a month-long controversy! this is quite disturbing honestly! In France, the late president Mitterrand, admitted he cheated on his wife and had a kid with his mistress...it was a scandal for like...2 days...then everybody was like...well, whatever...If it had happened here, it would have been shouts of "EMPEACHMENT!!!" and blablabla for 3 months... but when young marines get blasted guts open in a country they couldn`t even locate on a map before going there...well...not much is said...I feel sick... :smt078
That's a good point madscientist. Many filmmakers go onto make independent features when they cannot get funding from a major studio. Although I know all to well from working company town myself in post-production, that any other distriubution other than wide distribution is dismissed as a result of fringe or guerilla filmmaking. Even "road show" type distribution is considered outsider, and it shows on the silver screen. I'm glad that there's technology cheap enough so everyone can afford video production. Still, the most expensive cinealta digital camera can't hold up to a 35mm in quality...and there's just something about that soft lighting it provides. On top of that, novices using Final Cut versus tinseltown pros using the industry standard, AVID, doesn't help either. The end product is a grainy, poor sounding film that people ignore. Unfortunately even after production of something like vers la sud, which is actually pretty good, it would never get picked up for wide distribution because it doesn't appeal to wide audiences. That's the truth of the bu$ine$$. Hollywood isn't about filmmaking, it's about distribution.
