The actress, 19, struck up a romance with the 31-year-old while filming the hit sci-fi series. But it seems the 12-year age gap finally proved too much. 'It was a lifestyle conflict,' a source close told America's Us Weekly. 'They were in very different places.' Mind the gap: Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere, who is 12 years his junior, have called off the romance. '[Hayden] is young. She likes to go out in the Hollywood scene and that's not his style. He has been concentrating on work on his production company,' the source added. The break-up is said to have happened last week and shortly after Panettiere was reportedly seen getting close to pop star Jesse McCartney at LA's Crown Bar. The source insists: 'They are still on friendly terms. There are no hard feelings.' Rumours of Hayden and Milo's romance first circulated when they were seen kissing at an Emmys party in September 2007 - and by the end of the year, they were regularly seen out together at showbiz events. Milo had previously denied rumours of a relationship with the star, who was then 18. Hayden plays the character Claire Bennet, who has the ability to regenerate, while Milo plays her uncle Peter Petrelli, who is able to take on other characters' superpowers.
