I've been living in Atlanta for awhile now, but until last weekend I had never been to DragonCon. If you don't know what DragonCon is, it is a huge convention held every Labor Day weekend in Atlanta for science fiction, Goth (horror) and comic book enthusiasts. Before you say "boring", please note one other tidbit: DragonCon is like the Freaknic for white girls. And for those of you who don't know what Freaknic is, it's the wild black college orgy that used to go on in the ATL every year until the Mayor stopped it. Got your attention? It starts on a Friday and doesn't end until Labor Day afternoon. DragonCon is an event that won't be stopped by anyone because it's much more organized than Freaknic was and most of the participants are between the ages of 18 - 40. They also have activities for the kids earlier in the day. Most of the activities are centralized around three major hotels in downtown Atlanta: The Hyatt, The Marriott and The Hilton. Other than a big parade that happens on Peachtree Street that Saturday, all the fun takes place at the hotels. Since it is a science fiction, Goth (horror), and comic convention, most of the people there are dressed in costumes. It's not uncommon to walk past someone dressed as a Star Trek or Star Wars character. That probably doesn't do anything for you, but the women are off the chain. I saw women dressed as Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider, Wonder Woman, Bat Girl, Spider Girl, Poison Ivy, Storm, dominatrix, and there were many pretty Gothic women dressed in black tights there. I also saw women with who had colored their skin green or blue for the occasion; and it was so convincing that you would have thought they were born that way. And the later you are there, the more raunchier the costumes get. These women are hot and some of them have late night parties in the hotel rooms. There is also drumming late at night where you can bring your own congas or bongos and drum all night while the women dance for you. I started to post this thread last week, but I was waiting to go get the few photos I took there developed. I still haven't gotten them developed, but I wanted to post this while it is still fresh on my mind. They have a "Walk of Fame" area in one of the hotels where you can meet famous people who were in science fiction, horror, and super hero movies or tv shows, who are selling books and signing autographs. There are also discussion panels and costume contests in the hotels. The only downside is that I registered for the convention right after Saturday's parade and had to wait in line for three and a half hours to get my ticket. In order to attend any of the events other than the parade, you must have your pass pinned on your shirt at all times. I found an untapped gem in DragonCon and I will be there next year. I may even get a hotel room in one of the participating hotels so that I can enjoy myself all weekend without having to leave. Most of the attendees are from out of town and they do that. Like I said, the later it gets the wilder it is. There were lots of attractive women of all ages there. From what I saw, there were several black guys there, but they were in such a minority that if you saw another brother, you'd knod your head just to acknowledge his presence like you're wishing him luck with all these hot women around. There were more black women there than black men, and they were doing their interracial thing there, too. I would like to encourage all black men reading this to attend (as long as you don't go down there causing trouble, lol). Even though I was one of the few black guys there, I never felt any type of racism. It's all good at DragonCon. Here is just a taste of what you may see there. These are not the photos I took, though: Peace.
I' ve never been to any of the conventions but my wife and I are avid roleplaying enthusiasts. Did you get a hook-up?
I understand what you mean when you say Nerdfest because there were plenty of them at DragonCon. There were some guys that took the Star Trek/Star Wars thing much too seriously, debating over which super hero would beat the other in a fight, and during their arguments they could name the exact year and issue of whatever comic book they were referencing. There were computer geeks who only knew how to make jokes using computer analogies, too. But the women were fine. And having all of those nerds around increases your chances of meeting the girls. And PhillyLove3242, there seems to be a correlation between DragonCon attendees and the whole roleplay/domination & submission stuff. They even had booths there where they were selling handcuffs, paddles, leather straps, and whips. During the parade, there was one guy walking down the street cracking a real bullwhip. It was so loud that you thought he was trying to whip everyone back into slavery again, lol! And during the costume contest, one of the women who was dressed as comic character dawn, let one of the judges lightly spank her with a strap. Peace. ________ “You know you are famous when you discover you have become a comic book character,” - Nelson Mandela
Well I like comics, sci-fi movies (some franchises), and I absolutely love hot WW in stockings so you can sign me up...
I'm surprised that you've never heard of it, QSSassy because, for some reason, you just seem like the type that would be there acting wild and crazy. Bmanz, DragonCon might be a good place for some of us here at whitewomenbblackmen.com to meet in the future. Below is their website along with more DragonCon photos. It's actually much wilder than it looks (I believe I saw the black woman in the photos at this year's convention): http://www.dragoncon.org/ Peace.
I actually would't mind checking it out.. One of my best friends has had her gothic moments.. and she just moved back to the area.. I'll have to see if she has ever been there.
Its the same way here in Chicago, we have Anime Central (A-Cen) in May and Reactor in October and its the same story. Everyone tends to be cool at these types of things. I once saw a brother play the entire Final fantasy 7 soundtrack on a piano. It's pretty dope at these types of conventions.
God, I wish women could dress like this all the time just as their regular daywear. These are some hot outfits and hot women wearing them 8)
I admit I just got back into reading comics after not being a regular reader during the second half of my teen years and early 20's although I found a way to stay current on went on. I'd probably go down there one day. I think my girl would go nuts down there.
