Personally, I am not so sure what adulthood means today. Back then, and in some societies , it meant a phase in life where men left home, took a wife, and were ready to start a family. But modern life, and advances in technology, emerging trends have ruptured this aspect of life forever. It makes no sense in saying "taking a wife," and for successful women, maybe it makes better sense to say, " taking a husband." Who is better empowered takes that leap, since there is hardly a dichotomy between sexes anymore, except in physical attributes.

I think a new concept of adulthood would emerge. If men are now seen to be boys, it may mean the traditional role of men has since expired with the modern economy. Unfortunately, the knowledge that we have to interpret these things is from traditional culture. Until we shift away from that culture, and start to develop a new body of knowledge that speaks to the times, and that which redefines the role of men, and what new skills should come as a package of being a man, we would always feel something is wrong with the modern man. Yet, modern men are only passing through the phase of adjustment.

Maybe in future, modern men would have to acquire baby-sitting skills, and other social skills were associated with women. I see the idea of a man proposing to a woman changing, women would have to do the hunting and scouting to woo men, or maybe compete for them. I guess it all boils down to the modern economy and how it has empowered women, an evolution of culture and how we will best thrive within it.

Modern society has become so sophisticated and so intellectually grounded that women now have rights and can own properties without men having to sign, or co-sign. Women can live alone without fear of assault, or criminals violating their space since the law is well developed to take care of them. So why does the modern woman need a man? Maybe for procreation, and some other psychological satisfaction.

My boyfriend also has custody of his son for the very reasons you described. One of the main reasons that I love him because he is a good father. I think the woman who wrote this piece of trash is the damaged one.

yeah she maybe trying sell books by saying things provocative but that is the only way to get peoples attention. It is however about time people start talking about manhood because it will bring a sense of balance. We tend to alienate men from the kids and now these kids are all over the place more so than before.....showing their asses thinking it is cool. girls need ttheir fathers also so they will not starve for male attention and get it from the wrong guy.

yeah they have marginalized healthy relationships. especially men and their rightful place with the kids.

men really need to take a page out of the civil rights book and the womens movement and banned together for fathers rights.
