Half Black/Half white = Black? Biracial people

Africans that are "unmixed" come in 64 shades of color versus about 16 shades for those of European stock. All one has to do is look at South Africans versus West Africans versus East Africans (Kenyans for instance)...versus say...Bushmen and see that there is an endless array of features and colors that don't even include the highly mixed population of blacks in the Americas.

As for how biracials identify; I would tell any children I may have that on paper they are bi-racial and that because I'm black American and their mother is white (if it's my current gf...Polish and Irish)...they will likely be "more white" than black since the average black American is 17-20% white...I'm fairly dark so I'll be conservative and say 10-12% though it's likely a tad higher because I'm considerably darker than my mom and just about darker than my dad.

However...bi-racial children must understand (and I"m talking about black/white) that they will be treated as something "not white." As long as they understand that...like Obama...they likely won't be confused....they must also understand that insults because of their racial mix will happen..the same way that brown-skinned blacks make fun of dark skinned blacks for being dark and dark skinned blacks make fun of brown skinned/light skinned blacks for looking "Injun"....don't run away from your blackness but don't feel the need to overcompensate either.

The idea of "Black" in the US is comprised of people from many differing regions, and comprise many different features. People from Ghana look distinctly different from people from Kenya. Their descendants in the United States are all just "Black." It's a terrible measurement. Yes, you can find similarities within the racial group, just as you can with Icelandic people and Greek people. But those similarities are thin, compared to, say, the commonalities of people who have descended from similar regions.

I don't really go for saying "full" anything, but if she wants to say she's Asian, that's her right.

There are many Black people who are raised Black by two Black parents who have Asian features indicating that they clearly have an Asian ancestor. Similarly, in Chicago there are a LOT of Black people who are raised Black by two Black parents who have Native American ancestors and some Native American features. You and I agree that Biracial people should not be defined by what they "look like", no? So where are you going with this?

    Very wise.

It should be noted: Biracial people occasionally, even with one dark skinned parent, appear White. Your plan would still work in that case, of course, but I thought I'd put it out there.

    I'm a white woman.

    Why?

    Good point

I was referring more to their actual racial composition...not so much their appearance. People will call them "black" most likely but they probably won't even be 50% African descent since I am not 100% of African blood...(of course it's possible my gf has a couple of black ancestors though probably far fewer than the number of white ancestors I have).

    This is where Im going...

One day she decides she's full asian and only identifies with asians. She disowns her black features. According to you she can do that. According to you ....

She can say she's full white. Do you not see the problem in what your saying?

Show me a picture of a Black person with two pure Black parents that look biracial. Please do

We'll have the racial argument later. Let's just stick to the topic for now.

According to you. Cassie can say she's full black. Even though clearly she's half Filipino. But she can choose to be full black.

No I do not. I see why our society would declare her African American, but I do not see why society should be allowed to make that decision for her.

Likewise, Biracial people who appear one race or another should not be told that is their only race. They should be able to define it.

As we have discussed at length, there is pretty much nothing in the US such as "pure Black parents."

I hope you understand, I don't have the foggiest idea what that topic is.

Others might not accept her choice, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't have it.

Is that what your saying? A bi-racial person can choose to be one or thee other
    [IMG]

She can choose to be black?

    Take Charlie Baltimore for example.

She's half white half black. She's a female rapper and identifies with Black culture. No one time has it come out of her mouth that she said she's full black. she has said she's half. But even if she didn't wouldn't she look kind of retarded saying she disowned her half white side and she's only identifying with her black side.

    hmm?

Look CBQ. Don't get it twisted. Your cool and all and I like your attitude. But your losing ground with me.

When I mean pure Black I mean people who have an ethnic makeup of mostly black.

You keep argueing with me that biracial people can choose what race they are and your not understanding that they can only choose what race they want to fit in with.

Amerie is half black half asian. Thats what she is. Asian mother Black father.
Cassie is half black. Her mother and father weren't both black. It's that simple.

Am I speaking Thanagarian? It's not about how she would look. People insist that Biracial people who look one race or the other should call themselves one thing or the other. Others, like yourself, insist that people who look Biracial call themselves Biracial, no matter how they personally would like to identify themselves. Neither of these things is how it should be.

those admixers have been whiped to extinction.

This is arbitary to mixing pure milk with pure water. And then mixing the water/milk mixture with pure water. Then mixing the water/milk/pure water mixture with pure water until the milk molecules have been completely comsumed by the water molecules. After doing this for 400 + years, only a fool will claim theres still milk in that water.

    lol.....later
