Even worse, a lot of people don't even seem to care about things like that. They're a lot more concerned with the whole "out of my cold, dead hands" mentality almost to the exclusion of everything else. I wonder about the mindset of the kind of person who feels the need to carry a gun with them at all times. Movie theaters, little league games, bars and restaurants...when does it end?
Yes, this conflation of citizen and consumer produces people who, instead of a sense of obligation or respect for others, go through society like a disgruntled shopper the day after Thanksgiving, demanding what they want, when they want it and how they want it. Crossing this person is a dangerous thing to do. Someone with the self-control of a 2-year old and deadly force at his disposal. Giving this person a firearm? Now THAT'S responsible behavior. Yeah, the economy and social breakdown and other factors have to be pushing people to the breaking point. And throwing easy access to guns into the mix and you've got a recipe for havoc.
