The fact of the matter is there's basically little to no evidence of any major or minor voter fraud in the United States. Voter suppression on the other hand is a tactic that Republicans and conservatives have engaged in for years and continue to do so ironically under the guise of unsubstantiated claims of rampant voter fraud. This is done to disenfranchise minorities, the poor, and younger voters who tend to vote Democrat. For the past 2 years Republicans and conservatives have been trying to roll back voting rights across the nation to curb the type of voters that helped push Obama into the White House. Let's not forget that a Democratic president hasn't won the White vote since the Civil Rights Act passed. That includes Barack Obama. Despite the typical American self backslapping about "How far we've come" what really helped push Obama over the edge was not just younger voters but a record turnout of younger Black and Latino voters. Republicans know this and they know that white voters will eventually be the minority. Voter ID laws are pretty much just code for voter suppression the same way "State's Rights" was code for supporting/justifying slavery and segregation without having to explicitly say so. It's basically Republicans creating a scapegoat for a non-existent problem, and exploiting the paranoia and fears of their ignorant conservative base to not only help them score political points (ie: see 'ACORN') but to make electoral gains by trashing the constitutional rights of younger Americans and disenfranchised groups. Just another example of why Republicans are useless. Voter ID laws, abortion, and making sure the rich and corporations can keep their tax cuts. Notice they've not only done nothing about the jobs situation in this country, but are actively trying to sabotage Democratic attempts to create jobs. A bit off topic but is anyone paying attention to this pay roll tax fiasco?? Conservatives are complete hypocrites.
You can a make a point about voter suppression without saying fraud doesn't exist. From election staff to diebold, fraud still happens.
I'm not saying it doesn't happen but does it happen to the extent that it's necessary for Republicans to roll back voting rights nationwide for millions of people??
There have been cases of voter REGISTRATION fraud; signing up people and having them fill out voter applications in which they don't provide accurate information. These people NEVER show up to vote for the most part. There have been very few cases to the point of calling it rare, of actual VOTER fraud; someone showing up at the polls who isn't eligible to vote. The GOP has convinced right wingers that BHO was illegitimately elected due to voter fraud which is the big White Republican LIE Faux News keeps pushing in order to justify states across the country making it more difficult for average people to vote. If you're a college student in the state of Texas, all of a sudden presenting your student ID is unacceptable at a polling site, but an NRA membership card is. WTF?? Same day registration and voting is being disallowed in some states. This isn't about guaranteeing the authenticity of elections, if so the GOP would be pushing for electronic touch screen voting machines to issue a receipt after voting. No this is about suppressing the vote and dampening the participation of minorities and the poor in the 2012 election. Democrats NEVER do this shit when it comes to voting.
if many in the base are too lazy to go get a free state id then the dems are screwed. i still have no idea how so many blacks dont have a state issued id. you need it for so many things. blacks are there own worst enemy most of the time with things like this.
Tried posting this earlier but I guess it got removed because it was too long or something so I'll post part of it. This is an example of how difficult Republicans are making it for people to register to vote: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/12/wisconsin-voter-id-law_n_1129837.html Now Wisconsin used to be a very easy state to vote in and in the past 10 years there's been pretty much no voter fraud. So why the changes?? And obviously many people, especially lower income people, can't go through all of that to vote and shouldn't have to. There are also other things Republicans are trying to do to suppress voters. Such as ending early day voting and same day registration in many States. Something that was very beneficial to President Obama's election. People who vote early and on the same day they register to vote tend to be minorities and students. And since they tend to vote Democratic naturally their voting rights have to be targeted as well.
