I remember Isiah Washington getting into trouble over a "gay" comment, about one of his fellow cast-members in "Grey's Anatomy." The thing is though, whether or not the racial issue goes both ways. If a black person makes a lewd comment about a white person, would they catch as much heat as a white person, in their same shoes? I know some people will debate the whole issue about race, and what effect blacks really have on "white society," but how can we expect better racial relations, if we choose ignorance over intelligence, and keep putting white people down over our anger of the past? I wouldn't want to be friends, if I were white, with an "angry black man," knowing I had nothing to do with his or her past. For racial tolerance and acceptance, we have to do our own "backyard cleaning," and get along with others, which is what Dr. King would want us to do. I don't think he would want us humiliating white people in general, and getting away with it.
Good point. Isiah wasn't fired after the first time, but he was dumb enough not to learn from his first mistake.
The problem with Sharpton was he was getting fuzzy when it came to Bill O'Reilly. Both he and Jesse Jackson kind of backpedaled with giving salvos.
I used to watch Bill O' Reily, and I know how tough he can be, when it comes to debating about various issues.. I am black, like many of you here, but I try not to "stick with your kind," when it comes to various issues. Black people aren't perfect..we're far from it... We do wrong things in life, just like anyone else. Sometimes we are at fault, sometimes we aren't. If we want to hunt down people who says things that are "offensive" to us, we need to spend an equal amount of time hunting down black people that use slurs and get away with it.. to be taken seriously. The power of the slur may not have the same impact, in your mind, to someone else.... but maybe to that person, who wants to "squash all beef" with black people, it's hurtful and makes them shy away. just a thought...
Actually T.r Knight was nowhere around when Washington made the Faggot remark,so in essence Washington never called that dude a faggot and here is the kicker he decided to come out after that T.R. was faking like shit.
What does the weather or not Knight was around or not when Washington made the slur have to do with anything? So if Knight let loose the N- word even if "Burke" "Bailey" or "Chief" weren't around, you don't think there would be issues? And again, was it to much to ask that Washington not make gay jokes after that incident happened?
Washington wasn't talking about Knight when he said the word....he said "faggot".....but it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular. He should have known better though especially as a black man on a hit T.V. show. T.R. Knight however, rode that horse until it was dead. Patrick Dempsey was classy....he tried not to talk about what happened much. Don't forget about Katherine Heigl....she didn't exactly go out of her way to smooth things over.
That it was not aimed at anyone in particular doesn't make excuse it. So let me sit here and make a few slurs against various groups and as long as I don't direct it at a specific person, I'm good to go  Yes he should have known better. And he really should have known better then to later joke about it after the initial incident.
I found 2 articles from the USA Today site relating to this, in involves Golfweek magazine, which personally I have never heard of until hearing about this on CNN. www.usatoday.com/sports/golf/2008-01-16-golfweek-cover-image_N.htm www.usatoday.com/sports/golf/2008-01-17-2728033939_x.htm
No it's not an excuse....but people should know exactly what happened....they make it sound as if Washington just got in TR's face and cussed him out......but I agree that he should have never said it or joked about it later.
I was going under the assumption that people knew what happened. Sorry if you didn't realize where I was coming from. My point all along has been that he couldn't make the mistake again.
shiiiiet.. i remember when that first happened, with Washington.. online newsgroups had the man pasted as the enemy after what he did... i guess they needed to find a black man doing something stupid, to take attention away from other issues at hand.. I think this was around the same time Don Imus got in trouble for messin' with the honey-dips at Rutgers...
Next to watching Gary Dourdan on CSI :smt007 , Grey's Anatomy was may favorite show. So I guess I kept more up to date on what was going on. Thus I knew it wasn't a get in his face type of scene. I was really sad to see him go because unlike some of the Blair underwood roles, that was set as a continous IR and on one of the most popular network shows at that.
