Go and enjoy yourself I am a black man married to a Russian Model and I have been there many times, the last being Sept 2005. My wife and I had a ball. In all the times I've been there I never feared for my safety. Russians will stare at you because you are obviously from the U.S. and they don't get to see that many american black folks up close. All have been very nice and cordial, and you'll find many who would like to converse with you about american life.

Fly into Domodedovo Airport is the most modern of the three Moscow has in fact to me it one of the best airports I've ever been in. Plus you can take the rail into Moscow from there which is a plus.

Stay away from Sheremetyevo Airport is god awful and behind in the times even though they are still renovating it. If you have any other questions e-mail me offline and I'll break it down even further for you. Enjoy and with anywhere you travel....

Use your head, no the other one!

Some places are boring DI and my home state is not a exception. I'm sorry you did not enjoy some of the good parts of North Carolina. I hope you can visit North Carolina in the future and see some of those non boring parts. You went to the place where the first airplane was flown. Yesterday was the 104th anniversary of that flight at Kitty Hawk. As of Elizabeth City it can be boring if you went to a place that was boring. I think I had heard of that rapper you mentioned.

    Russia is THE place

All the anti-Americanism you see all over the world does not apply to African Americans. The Russians girls will love you for all the wrong reasons, but you'll have a ball. Just stay away from their husbands (who are probably drunk somewhere). Usually, the Russian girls play the white dudes for money, but from us, it's strickly about "meat." :) Have fun!

Malik, thanks a lot for the post and for the helpful info. The one thing i am scared about, is sticking out like a sore thumb because i'm one of the few black people over there lol. just kidding...i should be fine. i'm feeling confident about my trip because i have so many people looking out for my best interests and giving me so much great advice. thanks again.

wow, 4 months for each trip that you've been here. that's awesome. let me ask you, how did u go about getting your visa approved for 4 months? i hear that the U.S. is getting really strict on how long they let people stay in the country. when my russian friend was trying to come to the U.S a while back, even though she had been here many times before, her visa was denied because the consulate said she didn't show enough ties to her country. how were you able to convince them of the ties to your country? just curious.

actually, yeah, i have been to North Carolina. it's really different from Chicago IMO. i've never been to NY, but i have heard of Avalon :)

by the way, if you visit Atlanta, make sure you bring some sunblock in the summer, cause it's hot as HECK out there!! lol

yea, its pretty hard to get the visa to US. but not for students))) coz we have a student exchange program and the ambassodory gives visa J-1 (with work permission) for 4 months. and its really great! coz I could see the different culture and not just see, I could live in this, it was good life experience for me!!!! coz u know in Russia, i live with my parents, i dont work, just study, i have everything and i m fine)))) but in the US I m absolutely free and I gotta watch myself and i gotta work ,coz if i dont, i m gonna be homeless and hungry! lol and u know, when u re so far from home sometimes u have troubles of course and nobody can help u))) so, u gotta be strong! i m really stronger now than before! :D
and about ties to home country...yea, when i went to the ambassodary, I spoke to consulate and he asked me many questions about if i have a good family and if my family is good about money etc...and he asked me about my future plans ,coz he tried to see if i m enough succesful here, coz if it is so, i have no reasons to stay in the US. and i tried to show him how much i love Russia and that I ve never even thought about emigration! lol

actually, u not gonna be one just a few black ppl in Moscow. there are so of them, especially in the clubs! so dont worry!

ohh, okay, that makes sense. i forgot about the student exchange program. my friend does all the same things that you're doing. she lives with her parents, and goes to school. i don't know why she didn't try to do it the way that you did, instead of just trying to get a tourist visa that last for months. the consulate wasn't going for that. and yeah, that's so much better because you get to actually live here and experience the culture, instead of coming for a few weeks, and leaving. you said you're coming back in a year right. will you still be under the exchange program next time? how exactly does that work anyway. i never really understood how the exchange program worked.

haha...well, you're just like all the rest of us then! if you're in the U.S. and you don't work, you're definitely gonna be homeless and hungry lol. did u have any people or guides that were with you in the U.S. or were you just by yourself? and how long did it take you to get adjusted to the difference in culture?

haha...okay, cool. i'm not too worried about it. being a black man in America, and attending a lot of schools where i was one of the only black faces in the entire place has taught me to not really care about it that much anymore. the only thing in Russia that i was concerned about, was whether i should smile at people or not. i'm kind of a friendly person, and when i'm walking down the street, or am going somewhere, i always smile and greet a person with a hello, even if i don't know them. i heard they don't do that in russia though, so i'm gonna have to get used to that lol.

I had nobody in the US, just my best friend, she was with me all the time! u know what? this experience was really stressed for me))) coz I had the situation , i would NEVER have in Russia! like I had no place to live, coz we couldnr find smth to rent. we bought a newspaper (russian) and just kept calling every number))) we run to some crazy russian man a few times...they just wanted to live with young girls...u know why  and then, we went to some guys place (we knew them for just 1 day), coz they were the only ppl we knew there, in NY...and we spent 2 days in their house and found a room to rent. but it was a piece of shit, not even room! :D coz it was SOOOOO dirty, with many mouses.....and shit like this finelly, we mouved to the my friend boss's motel. he is soooooo good and nice person! (he is black btw :) )he ve been so caring about us! he gave us a big room for the rest of the summer for free! so...thats one of millions story I experienced in the US  but the most scarry was in that club...there was a bumping titties and I was hurt badly ..i was so scarry...it was the night when Cassidy was there...lol
well, I wanna come to the US after I finish my university...it s gonna be hard to get visam coz m not gonna be a student anymore. but I m sure, I will devise smth! :D coz I really really miss US and I wanna go there again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i m not sure if u know about that...russian ppl call smiling faces "american smile" :D
