oh I'm sure there are many english speaking people in the airport! I guess all the stuff working there speak english. And if you'll need some help, you'll get it, dont worry! and you know my number! Just in the case, if nobody will understand you (I dont think it happens though), i'll talk to them myself!

    SIM card

Bryant, don't forget to get a SIM card that can give you good rates to call DI in Russia. To be held hostage to a payphone is no joke.

You're probably right about the plans being the same...only being valid for as long as i'm away. This is my first time traveling abroad, so there is still a bunch of stuff that i'm learning on the fly. There's only a few short months left before i take off, so i'm glad that you're all helping me with this important info.;)

And don't worry, i'm not freaked out by the racially motivated beating. I understand that something like that could occur at any given moment in time. I have a good feeling that i'll be safe, and of course, i'm hoping that nothing crazy like that happens to me lol.

Yep, very true Lucifer. The original plan was for her to come and be with me in the summer of 09', but we've been waiting too long to see each other as it is, so i made up my mind to just bite the bullet and go be with her first.

lol, that's what I had to do in Kiev, the lady in the train station didn't understand me and laughed actually. But the cop that asked for my papers spoke English...

In the EE the chances of you finding non-service people that don't speak English is pretty good, but in all service sector jobs especially in touristy areas all have English speakers since most of Eastern Europe is Visa-free to Europeans and Americans/Canadians, save for Russia but when tensions go down who knows, but I know that Russia doesn't want a flood of its own people moving to west and lifting visa requirements on both sides would open that can of worms.

But English is taut in school, its just most tend not to -

    a) Pay attention in class, the same way you didn't pay much attention in Spanish class, or at least I didn't, got a D and barely remember anything..

    b) Lack of practice, when your momma and pappa speak Russian all day, everyday and so do your friends, nobody to speak English too which has given rise to using Skype, ICQ and other social outlets to find people to speak English with.

You'll find that most Russians in DI's age bracket usually do speak English in varying degrees.
