Thanks Malik! Cool, i'm glad that getting the medical insurance isn't mandatory. It just seems like a pain in the butt for me to try and do that, just so i can go on a vacation. Oh yes, i have a feeling that it's gonna be quite cold. I'm used to the Chicago winters, which can be extremely harsh, but from what i'm hearing, the Russian winters are even worse.

I'm taking American Airlines from Chicago to London, then taking British Airlines from London to Domodedovo in Moscow, and finally taking Siberian Airlines from Moscow to Kazan.

Congratulations Bryant. Don't wait on applying for that passport and Visa. Pay extra and expedite it if you can. I got my passport last year for a trip to London and I plan to use it more often in the near future.

Check out this site - http://www.seatguru.com. It has some great advice on selecting the best seats when flying.

Will you be able to check in and let us know how you're doing while you're there?

I just emailed you my contact info to carry as one of your emergency backups.

Oh yeah, I love you heh.

(I am European background, but first generation Aussie). Best of both worlds, baby ;)

Anyone in Australia by the way, speak up! I might make a thread.

    !

    Let me help.

Firstly, European is a huge generalisation but if you are thinking non-Anglo Europeatn (as in Slavic- from the East, or Med) you firstly need to switch things a bit.

I have been fortunate to travel to most corners of this globe, sometimes as a single gal and sometimes 'au duex'.

Now I don't know you, so I don't know if you make any of these mistakes. I didn't catch the feel with most American men I met (sorry boys) for the below reasons:

    1) The throw it down, homeboy style won't wash at all with most of us. And when I say that, I mean, it really really won't. If you can do it with a sense of humour- not taking yourself too seriously- that's ok. Other than that, it's sooo hard for me to keep a straight face otherwise. I love hip hop (actually, I love dancheall and roots alot more), but life's not a hip hop video.

I undersrtand this is a totally legit way of being for most guys, and that's ok, just as long as you are being real, it's ok I guess.

    2) Being mean because you think she will then want your affection. Big wrong. She will just think you think she's stupid, and therefore, will assume you are too.

    3) Have something to talk about

    4) Be polite, be nice and have some manners, but you still need to be a man too.

    5) Don't grab anything, at all, without permission first (and this can be sexy, just catch her eye). Don't pat her on the butt, the side, nothing, she knows you are down, that's why she's talking to you, but let it build up.

    6) Know something about where she's from, or if you don't, don't pretend you do. Just ask.

    Good luck!

I have no idea what it costs in the States to buy, but contrary to Malik

why why why travel without insurance? If you can't afford insurance, you can't afford to travel.

Hopefully nothing goes wrong, but it might. What then when you are sick and need a medical evacuation?

Again to each his own I have been to Russia many times and never had any issues at all. It's not all that expensive. Click the link below...

    Medical Insurance Abroad

BTW Domodedovo (see the link below) is one of the best airports I have ever been in and it's still under construction. Also brush up on your Russian B. Since you have to transfer to a domestic flight you will have to go to a section of the airport where English is almost non-existent. Experiencing this for the first time, being surrounded by folk in another country who don't speak English is a little unsettling coupled with the fact that a large number of Russians look angry, mean, and non-talkative.

The truth is many are non talkative but not angry or mean they just go about their business, so while many pay you no attention other than a passing glance many will STARE AT YOU. To them you are an American up close....

Russians clap when a plane lands safely so don't trip it's just their way of thanking the pilot for landing safely...

Thanks webmaster! I definitely won't wait too long to get my passport and visa. I'll probably go and get my passport done in the next few days, and my visa done in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for the link for the seating advice. I wonder if it'll still work after i've already selected my seating for each flight? I chose the window seats lol.

I'll most definitely be able to check in and let you all know how i'm doing. Dinara has a PC with internet access in her home (of course...seeing as though she's always logged onto this site lol), and i'm sure i'll be able to get online and upload all of the pictures, and everything.

By the way, thanks a bunch for e-mailing me your contact info in case of an emergency. This place has always felt like family, and that just confirms it.;)

I guess i was just under the impression that i would have to purchase insurance that "locks" me into a plan for a year, even though i'm only going on a short vacation for a few weeks. I know something might go wrong, and i'm leaning towards going ahead and getting the insurance, but i'm hoping that they don't try to lock me into some kind of long-term plan that i don't need.

Thanks Soul. She has internet in her home, so it shouldn't be a problem getting online and updating you all.

Wow Malik, that airport looks massive. Hopefully i can find my way around in there. For some reason i thought the people in Moscow would be fluent in english, but i'll take your word for it and try my best to brush up on the russian skills in case i need to ask for directions to my terminal or something. It's funny that you mentioned how a large number of Russians look angry, mean, and non-talkative, because me and Dinara were just talking on the phone about this very thing. She was telling me not to be alarmed if they don't smile, and if they seem to be unfriendly. They reserve the smiles for the people that they know.

I guess the staring has to be expected, seeing as though i'm not only black, but an american as well.

Thanks for all the advice though Malik. Webmaster sent me his contact information, and it would be good to have yours too. You're a black american, and you've been there, so i'm certain that i'm gonna be coming to you if i ever need some advice or pointers.
    ;)

Oh ok I understand, sort of. I can understand that concern.

In Australia it does not work that way at all, and I can't imagine the States being that different in such a respect.. then again, your medical system is pretty crazy compared to ours so maybe it's along those lines.

Here, you purchase a policy that becomes valid from the day you buy it (eg if you hurt yourself and cant travel, tour or flight is cancelled) and finishes the day you get back. The cost of the policy is calcuated according to how long you will be away for, and that's it. Travel insurance also includes medical.

I'm going to Africa soon, and have the most comprehensive cover available. We have year long plans too but mine expired when I was home for a little while. Africa and the States are the most expensive to purchase for). It cost me just 285 AU (thats 236 US) for 3.5 weeks.

It covers me for everything you can think of like
    - Unlimited medical
    - 3,000,000 AU personal indemnity insurance in case I get myself on the wrong side of the law, lol
    - Lost baggage, cancelled flights, an amount of cash, etc etc etc.

Do you have a similar system?

Hate to freak you out, but last time I was in Russia I saw a racially motivated beating on a black guy.

B I will ask the webmaster to forward my e-mail address to you...

While a large number of Russians speak English most don't. At Domodedovo if you need assistance just look for the information desk in the main terminal there's usually a few folks there who speak English.

Thanks Soul. I posted a couple of times under an older name, I won't reveal it since I was silly enough to put my pic up once ;)

A bit older and wiser now.

Am still waiting for other people here in Australia to reveal themselves! Really makes me laugh how some of you guys seem to rate the Med or Eastern european women, being an equal mix of both maybe I wasn't entirely crazy when I thought I could sometimes find a connection there. I often think with some African men I've met, it's more about a cultural understanding believe it or not now.

Have a great trip Bryant. About the insurance, well just call me an old woman.
