I just call it how I see it sweetie. You compared using the term "rape" being the same as using the N word. Thats absolutely stupid and if you don't think it is then you're even more clueless than I thought.

And also you're the one going on about keeping in contact with a 34 yr old man that banged you when you were 16. Thats just fucked up.

So calling your hypocritical bullshit is insulting? Which part of that thread insulted you? Did you or did you not sleep with a pervert at 16? Are you or are you not still friends with him? I pointed that out and you claim i am attempting to insult you how dumb is that? You are such a hypocritical double standard person and you need snicker fat slapped outta you . The difference between you and augusta is that she is demented and you are in denial otherwise the similarity runs through both of you. Your tendency to make mountains out of molehills is legendary. I suggest you go take your meds, the one you claim make you bloat like a balloon.

Wow. Do I actually agree with TDK and Iggy? WTF is wrong with me?

I, as a woman, have been guilty (right or wrong) of saying so-and-so was raped at such-and-such store, etc. I have used the term "rape" to mean being screwed over. And if you look at dictionary.com, the 4th meaning is talking about the same thing: screwing something over:

1.the unlawful compelling of a person through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse.

    2. any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person.

    3. statutory rape.

    4. an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside.

    5. Archaic . the act of seizing and carrying off by force.

I do think context means a lot in these cases and like Iggy said, I've also used the term "murdered" or "killed" to mean a horrible loss in a sporting event.

    It's all in context, IMO.

Yes, it's a poor choice of words (I am including myself in that statement), in general, to say those things, but I do think there are worse things in this world that we all should be worried about.

Okay, that's all I'm going to say in the matter.

FINE, as the survivor of more than one vicious rape, I think the lack of sensitivity demonstrates acceptance and increased victim blaming. As long as we continue to throw around words like rape and murder for the hell of it, it desensitizes people. Especially in rape, which is the only trial that you can be blamed to your face for your own attack.

    To Huntress:

First and foremost, it is my personal opinion that you delete your above post, in reference to another member's tragic incident. It's not your right to throw her situation all over the forum to justify your arguments.

Secondly, I never said the ACT of rape wasn't something that people should worry about. I said the word rape used in this context, whilst inappropriate and insensitive, isn't as big of a deal as you all are making it out to be, in my opinion.

    Thanks.

Why is that important? According to the wide array of posts on this forum she's not the only person who has ever gone through that but for you where does it stop?
what about the phrase" I could just kill myself fml" some of us have known others who killed themselves or tried to do it ourselves but no one would consider that insensitive or disrespectful. The way a word is used probably means more than the word itself. Like saying fuck yourself an i'd like to see you fuck yourself mean two totally different things and will have two totally different reactions.
I think deep down you know you're just being over sensitive at this point and rightfully so considering your past but you should just let it go kid.

Hmm psychoanalysis of Huntress: 1.Was very unpopular in school and was overlooked by hot guys and therefore didnt feel pretty enough 2.Was like a wall paper or the invisible person hence was hardly missed by anyone this led to insecurity hence allowed a 34 year old pervert sleep with her so she feels pretty 3. Has grown up melancholic and therefore always wanted to be right and everyone else wrong. Final conclusion: She has no life.

You're comparing "go fuck yourself" to rape and murder? Are you insane?

And go read my edited post.

LOL. You're really stuck on that tidbit, aren't you? Jealous?

Well, darling, I hate to break your heart, but you just wouldn't have a chance with me either way. Poor baby, you must be so lonely.

And see, your feeble attempts at insults would only matter if you mattered, and you don't. It was fun baiting you though.... you're so predictable that it really wasn't any work at all. Now, be a dear and piss off, because I'm truly bored of your predictability.

Actually, if you look at the court cases- victim-blaming is exceptionally popular, DK. It was used in my court cases, too. Big fancy Harvard-educated lawyers put together cases based on 'What kind of clothes was she wearing?'

Look at news articles about rape. The DSK case is one such example of that. The NYC cops that raped that girl. Really, any rape cases. It's well documented. Feel free to look it up. My point in bringing up my experiences and the real experiences of others is to point out that our feelings are valid, just like you wouldn't want me to say things with the n word peppered in them in 'polite' conversation, I wouldn't want you to joke about rape, or murder, or any of the other violent things humans to do each other that for some ungodly reason people think is sometimes hilarious.

My problem with you and some of the other posters is this: As soon as we bring real experiences to the table, our opinions are somehow invalid. That's like saying that you can't talk a shred of truth about racism because you're biased after having experienced it. Stupid, right?

And thanks for your concern, but I have seen someone. I've seen many someones who have all told me to stop wasting my money and live my life- because I'm just fine, thank you- and I belong to organizations that work tirelessly to see things like this end. As long as you can view the word 'rape' and think it's hilarious, or 'murder', then it speaks to a larger problem in the American psyche that truly none of us can solve- but awareness is a big part in changing that.

Just because another woman said this to the OP doesn't make it any less egregious. Just this morning, I deleted a comment off of my FB because someone (a female!) made a comment about game posts 'raping' their News Feed. I sent them a message and told them I was deleting the post and why, and I did. They were fine with it, even acknowledging that it wasn't appropriate. There are some people in this world who can put on their big kid pants and realize that just because you have freedom of speech, doesn't mean you get to just toss it about like words have no power. If you truly believe that, then don't get angry when someone calls you the n word.
