You've hit on my one true love - TRAVEL! You have to go to Union Station. It's historical and just lovely, the train station there. If you like good food that's not overpriced, especially giant cinnamon rolls, try Ann Sather. Best cinnamon roll you'll ever eat.
On the end the food court in Union Station there is a popcorn store, Nuts on Clark, they have thevbest Cheese popcorn in...in everywhere I have been and had popcorn in my opinion. It's so cheesy....emmm. I make special sixty minute trips to get it.
Thanks again, everyone! I was hoping to hit Moto while I was there, too...I've been watching the show on Planet Green, but it's ridiculously expensive. Have any of you scoped it out at all?
I live two blocks off the Mag Mile literally. We have the World Famous Gino's Pizza right down the street, as well as a number of High end restaurants on the mile, but you will appreciate our Pizza, Italian beefs, and a place called lucky's sandwiches a bit more as it runs parallel to true Chicago culture. The Theater district is right down the on state street right off of the Red line, and there are plenty of options there, not to mention the museum campus and navy pear. Your hotel puts you with in about a 10 minute cab ride or a short hop on the "L" which is our train system of all the famous and entertainment spots. You'll have fun, I love chi city, good luck
I've heard of this Italian beef stuff...and being an Italian, I am admittedly quite curious. LOL I leave on Saturday, so I'll have time to explore Saturday evening and after about 6pm the rest of the time I'm there. They apparently aren't doing much in the evening, which I am fine with. It gives me a chance to recharge a bit since most of the sessions start at 7:30 in the morning!
If you get a chance, just remember, AL's Italian beef, its legendary. If not, portillos offers go IB's as well.
So, I tried to go to Giordano's tonight and HOLY CRAP...it was a 2 hour wait! Is it any better during the week for dinner? I'm here until Wednesday afternoon. I ended up at a place across the street called Jakes something or other? They're known for their wings...I didn't get them because I'm from Buffalo and wings in other cities are the stuff our nightmares are made of...but the food was good. lol And I gotta say, I really enjoyed looking out my window and seeing Tiffany & Co on the next corner. :-D
Yea, anything on the Mag Mile and that area is going to be over run with tourist and visitors especially on the weekend. I'd try going back on a Monday or Tuesday? Perhaps the concierge at your hotel can throw you a few inside tips as well, they keep their ear pretty low to the ground around there. Have you gotten try doing anything else yet? Hope that helps
Yeah, any restaurant downtown on a weekend night is insane. Try lunch or wait until during the week. :smt023
great info on chicago...lippy will be there on business in mid-june and have to check out a few of these hot spots as well:smt047
You know metromix.com (I think thats it), is a great site, you can type in your circumstances, stay, dates, and it'll match you up with clubs, events, food's and conventions going on in the area. Anymore tips needed, lemme know
where can i buy 50 gallons of milk fairly inexpensively? just in case i want to take a milk bath:smt047
If you like reggae music and black guys, go to wild hare at north side, it is just a cab ride away. You will find all sorts of blk guys hitting on you in that club..lol.
Funny you should ask lippy, Dominick's (local grocery chain) offering By Organic Whole Milk - Half Gallon, get the next 1/2 off. lol Good Luck
LOL! OK, I'll keep that in mind if I'm feeling adventurous. lilhawk- I got in around 6:30pm yesterday, so by the time I got to the hotel, got settled, and ventured out for dinner, there wasn't much I could do. Today, after my meetings, I wasn't feeling very well, so I ended up at Elephant & Castle for a sandwich. I keep feeling like I'm coming down with something, which is really putting a dent in my usual adventuring!
