My family in Turkey is fairly modern, but I remember hearing of a story of a male cousin of mine who was in the kitchen with his wife, my aunt and someone else. He wanted a glass of water and was standing next to the fridge. His wife had to get it for him and it was expected of her. It saddens me to hear that this archaic caveman way of thinking and treating women still exists in my family. This is nothing compared to what happened, but that mindset is still rampant over in that part of the world.
It really makes me wonder what kind of harm was done some decades ago to many white girls in this country for either "looking at" or "talking to" black men.:smt009

Very sad story IB. In high school one of my very good friends was a Turkish exchange student. She told much the same story of being treated that way and she was always very afraid of her dad and his discipline. She always worried about what her dad would think of her dating here.
I cannot believe that this is the 21st century and women are STILL being treated this way. It's sick.
That's a part of history that's not talked about. Were they beaten? Killed? Disowned? What about it? I wholeheartedly agree. Mutfuckin Assholes! I could only imagine. Hopefully everything turned out okay for her. We have it so good here. I know. It's disheartening and so sad to even think about.
I don't know IB my sister and I were wondering about her recently. Never heard from her again. She confided before she left that she lost her virginity here and if her family figured it out she would have huge problems. My sister and I were saying geez hope that isnt why we never heard again.
