Employers don't know what I look like just from a resume though (thanks for the compliment btw ;)). I agree that Daquan Jackson would have a harder time than me, but I do believe there are people like me who couldn't care less about a name.

My ex-mother in law gave all her kids "white names" (as she used to say) in order to decrease the likelihood of discrimination during things like interviews, etc. She wanted them to at least get in the door, then they could hopefully be evaluated based on their skill, not their color. So I really do understand the point being made here.

Thank you for saying that because it annoys me when some people make it seem as if its unrealistic to believe will treat you differently based on insignificant bs. Hello we live in a world where racism still exists.

If only neg rep changed the facts, we'd live in a completely different world

    Playing dumb how?

To save time, I'll answer for you. You're going to say that I said that there is no such thing as name based discrimination in the workplace.

Then, I'm going to ask you to show me in my posts where I said that.,. which you will not be able to do.

Nothing wrong at all with Jamal or any alternate spelling of it, as long as it's intelligible. At least it's a real name in an actual language and not the random syllables thing.

    Classic! Lol

Many "ghetto" black people are fond of old French names like Marquis (feminine spelling is Marquise), Charmaine, and other names I can't think of at the moment.

First of all, I can't believe I have just spent 20 minutes reading the entire thread.

Then, as a Russian, I can attest that Shakita (I think I remember this right) is NOT a Russian name. Nikita IS though, and it's a male name. There are no female Nikitas in Russia.

Another point, my ex was Jewish, and his parents deliberately gave Christian first and middle names to their kids, with the hope that they endure less hardship. Unfortunately they didn't think that their last name might give them away...

Lol my ex fiance's name is Marquis and it ticked me off. Apparently the "s" in the end is spoken in the US,unlike in the French language where it is silent.

If it's spoken in the US, it's because someone did not know how to pronounce a word correctly. The last time I checked, 'Marquis' was not a naturally occurring word in the English language.
