After anti-government unrest spread to the Libyan capital and protesters seized military bases and weapons Sunday, Moammar Gadhafi's son went on state television to proclaim that his father remained in charge with the army's backing and would "fight until the last man, the last woman, the last bullet." Seif al-Islam Gadhafi, in the regime's first comments on the six days of demonstrations, warned the protesters that they risked igniting a civil war in which Libya's oil wealth "will be burned." The speech followed a fierce crackdown by security forces who fired on thousands of demonstrators and funeral marchers in the eastern city of Benghazi in a bloody cycle of violence that killed 60 people on Sunday alone, according to a doctor in one city hospital. Since the six days of unrest began, more than 200 people have been killed. ===================================== I'm surprised Ghaddafi's son didn't say, "...until the last child!" the Libyan regime has a history of brutality, matched only and surpassed by Saddam Hussein. The protest has spread to Yemen, Iran, Bahrain. How come it has not been seen in China, Venezuela, North Korea or Cuba???
Can't understand how someone who's a self-appointed dictator thinks that country BELONGS to him!!! He turned his goons on his own people and told them to open fire...the Libyans are gonna want Gaddafi's head on a stick.:axe:
Gaddafi hires African mercenaries? Last I checked Libya too was in Africa. Snap, I forgot about that imaginary Sub-Saharan line.
The soldiers who refused to fire on the public were themselves shot....bloody terrible. I've been following this closely, I'm very interested in the way we are gonna react to this. Cameron has been spouting some fighting talk, but at the same time our resources are stretched already and he realises that, I doubt we are in a position to help them if we were to plow into another war alongside the US I reckon we could go bust. Although I think the British government are feeling inconvenienced by this uprising. A possible new leader means a lot of negotiation again for resources and that's gonna be a set back indeed.
lmao the racists love to distinguish North Africa (home of the pyramids and Ancient Egyptian civilization) from everything south of the Sahara. Every time we claim Egyptian history as our own, it gets shot down because of that, as if it doesn't constitute African History (those hillbillies need fucking maps) Last time I checked, we had a command HQ and ships posted around African shores. If we really wanted to, we could be in there within hours (think Blackhawk Down) to stem bloodshed. If we have something to gain (ahem - oil or political connect) from removing Gadhafii by force, we'll do it regardless of the cost. The rich folk back home call it an investment.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110301/ap_on_re_eu/libya_diplomacy to even hint at the fact that Gadhafi could send in warplanes to bomb his own people, is just surreal :smt022
