Full-figured Missouri woman allegedly kicked out of swimming pool for wearing a bikini

After working hard to lose weight, Madelyn Sheaffer decided to wear a bikini while swimming at the Adventure Oasis Water Park in Independence. She says employees discriminated against her by asking her to cover up or leave.

Madelyn Sheaffer says she was kicked out of a water park in Independence, M.O. just because she is full figured.

A Missouri woman is putting on a brave face after she was reportedly kicked out of a water park because of her full figure.

Madelyn Sheaffer had just lost 100 pounds and felt confident enough in her skin to wear a bikini to the Adventure Oasis Water Park. After employees told her to cover up or leave, the Independence woman decided to speak out.

“I just felt like I was singled out,” Sheaffer told KSHB. “I felt like it was both age and body discrimination.”

The woman was in the swimming pool with her niece and nephew when two park employees allegedly walked up to her and asked her to throw on some shorts. They said her bottoms were too small.

Unfazed, Sheaffer asked to speak to a higher-up. The manager sang the same tune and showed her the exit in case she didn’t want to comply with the demand.

But Sheaffer says that the younger girls at the pool wore similar swimsuits and were not being told to cover up.

“There are 16- or 18-year-old girls wearing just the same amount and no one’s criticizing them or making them feel ashamed or feel uncomfortable in their bodies,” Sheaffer said.

The woman has filed a complaint against Adventure Oasis Water Park.

The woman was told to cover up with shorts or leave the Adventure Oasis water park.

A representative from the City of Independence told KSHB that managers have the last word when it comes to deciding whether or not a customer is wearing appropriate clothing.

But Sheaffer didn’t understand what she’d done wrong.

“It’s summer time. It’s a swimming pool,” she said. “I’m wearing a swimming suit.”

Supporters on KHSB’s Facebook page seemed to agree.

“She looks awesome! We wonder why our young girls have so many eating problems,” one Facebook user writes. “It's because beautiful women like this get discriminated against because they aren't 20 and have a stick figure. Our society needs help on what is and isn't beautiful.”

She looks good. If a celebrity like Jessica Alba or Jennifer Lopez can wear a bikini without any problem anywhere they go and this woman does the same thing because she wants to is thrown out while younger, thinner women go to the water park says a lot about the American standards of beauty. Superficial bullshit.

She is full figured??!!! Do those people want those pipe legged skinny women in bikinis? That is looks nothing of the description. G,she looks more like JLo than Alba. The pool owners are blind as bats.

There has to be more to this story. Missouri is the land of grazing big people since when does a person being overweight matter there.

I see women of her shape in bikinis a lot. Some look good, others need work and others do not look good at all. However, it is about a woman's comfort/confidence level. The woman lost a hundred pounds. Great. So she celebrates by wearing a bikini to show the world what she had accomplished. She is feeling good about herself. I just object to her being thrown out because someone was uncomfortable around her. The owners are truly blind as bats.

Preach, brother, preach! Missouri is the land of the never-ending buffet and triple helpings of mashed potatoes.

She wasn't kicked out because of her size, she was kicked out because her Bikini bottom was 'too small'.

Geek, thanks for clearing that up. Her bikini bottom looks fine. You thought she wore a thong bikini.

Sheaffer added to her post on Facebook: 'This was not a thong. It was a standard, summertime, two piece, string bikini. The same as everyone else, who felt confident enough in their body to wear one.

'I am a 43-year-old woman who did not have the confidence, or the body, to put on a bikini until I was 40 years old. I will not be discriminated against...

She wrote about the incident on her Facebook page, and claimed the officers sympathized with her.

'...The police did arrive and said that while they did not agree, they had to do their job,' she wrote.

'"We can't actually say anything", they said as we walked outside, "but I hope from the expressions on our face you can tell how we feel". They were compassionate. They too, thought it was ridiculous.'

Is that the first time? Lol

If you read it, you get the picture. The younger women are of course wearing the same type of swimwear, so this sends to be a bit of age ism, that it is not appropriate for a woman her age, and that voluptuous to wear the same type of bikini as the younger girls.

You really think she is going to win a case for them telling her to get off their property? idk kind of ifie there. I really don't think you need a reason to have someone get off your property.

Anybody can sue, but not everyone wins. America is soooo sue happy these days. She has no leg to stand on because she can't prove she was discriminated against. I wonder why none of the photos showcase her back side.... her ass might of engulfed her bikini turning it into a thing.

Also, there were some young chicks in there that were jealous cuz the MILF was getting attention from the boys.

    Women hate competition.
