formal (non IR) singles events?/ or Speed-Dating?

anybody go to these?

I guess it depends on what interests or hobbies you have.. in the local newspapers every week there is a list of "events for singles" in the metro area-- Euchre tournaments (!!), hiking/nature walks, golf, and of course, dances (no jeans or gym shoes? mother#$!#%, when is somebody going to have a 'jeans/gym-shoes' only event?).. most tend to be surburban, and by default, i'm thinking mostly caucasian participants...

...anybody go to events like this for the purpose of trying to make an IR connection?
