I always here people saying Americans and other first world countrymen take stuff for granted. I mean there are cases of that, but for the most part I think its the fact that we're use to having certain things. Thats why it might come off like we are unappreciative. When you're use to stuff you tend to look at it completely different than someone who isnt use to it. After awhile though the person who wasnt use to it, will eventually become use to it as well. Do you feel like first world populations tend to be unappreciative of their advantages or do you feel we're just jaded to it all?

yes i do feel that we are unappreciative of all that we have...we always want bigger, better & more. in my opinion, we tend to feel that we deserve the best & i'm so tired of the whole 'keeping up with the jones' mentality. i'm constantly letting my children know that we are lucky to have a roof over our heads, clothes on our back & food on our table. we sponsor a child in africa & speak of her, why we sponsor her & her family and the way they live in their village etc. i think that children growing up at the moment have a warped outlook on life thinking that everything comes easily and freely and don't hear the word NO often enough. i fear of what is to come in another 15-20 years

What stuff are we use to? We pay for everything just like everyone else. There isn't a difference just a motivation. You have to pay to get stuff. Some people in other countries aren't willing to do it. They turn around and then say that we are unappreciative. You got to put work in to get something. You want roads? pay for them! You want Medicare? pay for it. you want a mail service. pay for it!

We're use to having government programs that help citizens in need. In ALOT of poor countries shit like that does not exist. Also a chance at a decent education (Im being generous when saying this about the American education system) in comparison to poor countries. Theres a couple other things...

I will say alot of people from poor countries think Americans and other people from richer countries have it easy, when that is not the case.

I can't believe someone pays $200 for jeans. remarkable but hey that helped the economy if it got distributed to the people working and most didn't go to one person.

I truly believe in: to whom much is given, much is required. I think there are those, especially in the highest income brackets, who have no concept of what it's like to struggle. Early on in my career I did home visits with high risk pregnant ladies - 100% of my clients were on medicaid (government insurance) & 100% were BW or women of other ethnicities, in which the father of their baby was a BM. The disparity of low birth weight for babies of color is appalling. With all that being said, there are many, many americans, especially in the black community, who have a very rough life. I would never suggest that a person is unable to improve themselves, however it is much more difficult when you start out with very little - such as in the case of innocent children...when I saw how some of my fellow americans really live it stuck with me just how privileged I really am - white privilege in america is not a myth!!

We have been here for less than 300 years. Americans were poor too. They pulled themselves up. There was a time we didn't have an education system. There was a time that we had no welfare programs and roads. Where we were as poor as any other country. We had to work for this. Those countries refuse to do it. That's on them. You got to be willing to work for it. That's what makes countries great. Their ability to work for it. It isn't the people. It is what the people do that counts.

Poor people from poor countries think our standard of living fell from the sky....when in reality....it came at a cost....a cost they aren't willing to pay in the 3rd world

Americans did what 3rd worlders refuse to do....

    1.stop having babies like rats.

2.organize and demand your fair share.

When flaminghetero and archangel agree on something. You know you are wrong. That's like water and wax mixing together.

There isn't much knowledge about the American labor movement in the 3rd world.

They believe we have it better because our wealthy are more generous than their wealthy...LOL

Of course..the elites in those Countries want them to believe such foolishness..

Great point! The USA always had to be pushed to make changes in the economic system in order to create shared prosperity, not just prosperity for a few.

There is one advantage people in the 3rd world have over us:

They KNOW politicans are liars and not leaders.

If only Americans understood that simple truth.

Politicians are no better than used car salesmen. The sad thing about the American people is they want to be lied to. They want to have their cake and eat it too. Nobody wants to hear that getting rid of this deficit will necessitate cutting defense spending and letting the Bush tax cuts expire.

Apparently some of you aren't aware the reason why the US and other colonial imperialistt first world nations are so wealthy is because of the cheap labor the 3rd world provides. The very definition of capitalism requires that the few exploit the many to live well. They pull yourself up by the boot strap nonsense is horseshit. We do well because others suffer. We rely on cheap labor to sustain the value of our labor. How do you think companies like Walmart and the Gap survive.

Check out "The high cost of low prices" "Black Gold" and "The Corporation" if you want a better understanding of how our economy truly works.
