Cardinal Removes Pfleger From St. Sabina Parish http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/r...060308.article The firebrand pastor of St. Sabina parish was effectively removed from his duties there Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Archdiocese of Chicago. In the statement, Cardinal Francis George says he asked the Rev. Michael Pfleger, 59, to "take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties." The statement said Pfleger "does not believe this to be the right step at this time." "While respecting his disagreement, I have nevertheless asked him to use this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the Church's regulations for all Catholic priests," George said. The recent statements in question were video clips broadcast on You Tube where Pfleger mocked Hillary Clinton for crying on the campaign trail. He suggested her tears were due to "white entitlement" leading Clinton to believe the Democratic nomination should go to her, not Barack Obama. Pfleger has been a priest for 33 years, serving nearly all that time at St. Sabina's in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood. Fr. William Vanecko, Pastor of St. Kilian's parish, will be temporary administrator of St. Sabina's, the statement said. "I ask the members of St. Sabina's parish to cooperate with him and to keep him and Fr. Pfleger in their prayers," the statement reads. "They are in mine." *End of article* I don't understand, they get away with molesting little boys for years but if you are a white man saying something about another white person they strip you of your duties.... What's that about?
Re: Father Pfleger Stripped of his Pastoral Duties by Chicag i don't get it either, tony. especially what i bolded - it really makes no sense at all.
Let's not forget that one of the reasons why white people are in this country; The Spaniards used Catholicism to justify their rape and destruction of Native Americans and the land they occupied for thousands of years. The disease that was brought and the great reduction in population allowed English and later Scots-Irish people to step in when the Spanish left and take over a large mass of land with little threat of competition. I don't personally have anything against Catholics but the hypocrisy and the number of atrocities commited in the Church's name seems to greatly outweigh the number of sins committed by other denominations.
Hey, hey hey, Do not belittle the entirety of the Catholic Church simply because of the misguided, objectionable and morally unjustifiable acts of a group of people. There have been good or bad people from every religious group; more importantly, everything they did goes completely against the word of the dogmas of the Catholic Church, and you know that so please, don't go there. Jesus Christ, the founder of the Catholic Church, preached totally for the love of one another and it's clear he would have been revulted by their acts so don't pass that off as the totality of the Catholic Church.
I don't want to belittle the Catholic Church...my point is that their willingness to punish Michael Pfleger is misguided.....I do understand however that if he had made those remarks about black women...it probably would have made a bigger splash. I just think that a lot worse has been done in the Church's name and it was never dealt with that swiftly.
