Agreed on all points TS. And I really don't like the guy they got to play Dumbledore after Richard Harris died. He's just completely devoid of warmth IMO, he actually makes my skin crawl a little. He looks like a cold, mean spirited a-hole, very un-Dumbledore.

I don't think it's the actor per se, but more the script, the director's interpretation of the script (not the book), and the need for fast pacing in the movies. Dumbledore doesn't have a big role in any of the movies because there just isn't enough time.

That is usually why books tend to be so much better than their movie counterparts. Movies can't concentrate on every little thing that books can. It's just impossible.

Which makes the LOTR movies so amazing in their own right. They are the best movie adaptations of a book I have ever seen, and that's saying a lot. Peter Jackson deserved every little bit of praise he got for bringing those movies to life in such a fantastic way.

I think it might be fun if we did a fantasy book club. What do you guys think? Just one book a month.

I do think the movies began to portray Dumbledore in a darker light also, which isn't according to the books, but that actor just really is off-putting to me. He's just cold and mean looking, there's no warmth in his eyes, Richard Harris' eyes sparkled with warmth, for want of a better term. He just personified Dumbledore for me, and the new guy is like some evil clone.

They may have changed the direction of the character slightly with the new actor.

Two of my friends who are also very into Harry Potter don't like Michael Gambon either.

Though in HP4 when he ran at Harry and shook him and yelled, "did you put your name in the goblet?!?" was a little off-putting. But again, they changed directors at the 3rd movie which is the first movie with Michael Gambon. They made the movies decidedly darker starting with the 3rd one, which could be the reason Dumbledore took on a more ominous tone.

I don't know. I have no feelings one way or the other about him.

I do think Alan Rickman is genius casting for Snape, and I loved Kenneth Branagh as Lockhart in the 2nd movie and Jim Broadbent as Slughorn in the 6th movie.

I agree, I loved all of these. Slughorn and Harry were hysterical, and I have always loved Snape.

How about Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter I just started it. It's pretty good. So let's say by the July 13 everyone should be done.

I was quoting everything so I had to delete. I agree with the Dumbledore thing. I liked Richard Harrys way more.
And I agree with all the rest too.
    I'm excited!

I'm down, besides that I can't read the books your propose since I have like 10 there that are waiting to be read. I'll join when you chose a book I read already... and maybe I'll propose something too. But I read only "epic" and "wizardry" fantasies. No vampires or urban fantasy or sci-fi. :) Nice idea btw!
