Damn shame that even when a child is hurt, a man places his professional reputation ahead of the truth.

    Right......

This is most depressing. Hence why if a rottweiler were to attack my kid or me, I'd make sure the fucker won't be able to walk on three legs and won't be able to use that bottom part of the mouth once I dislocate the damned thing.

was a certain time in the uk last year where you would constantly hear about little kids being killed or injured by dogs, it was crazy, then it was those barstards who beat thier dogs and make em fight, was one bit of news where they threw a dog from a block of flats from the balcony, or some just kill them because they loose, its sick

I have a strong distaste towards dogs in general. And more so, I HATE idiots like PETA and other animal rights activists who think they are helpless creatures. If they have teeth, not only they bite, but it also indicates how fucking dangerous those nasty mutts are. They sicken me to death when they carry misguided views on the value of life.

I'm not a dog person. I was badly bitten as a small child and I'm never totally at ease around dogs.

Cats on the other hand? I'm a cat whisperer. My young man has a cat named Charley who regularly tries to crawl in my purse when I'm getting ready to leave.

I'm not much of a pet person period. But I do have a minor soft spot for kittens, but I'll never own one. I never understood the merit of possessing something as a companion.

I'd say my last kitty, who passed away a couple of months ago, owned me as much as I owned him. He was indeed my companion, and my best friend, and we went through more crap together than I've ever been through with a man LOL

Hahaha, I'll stick with just being through obstacles alone, unless I have a Silverback Gorilla for a pet. THEN, the fruits of companionship will apply to me.

I AM a dog person. And so I will refrain from commenting on the hatred that has just spewed out of mouths right now.

All I'm going to say here is that it is the owner's fault. The dog should have been leashed, restrained and supervised, then none of this would have happened. I will also say that clearly this dog was lacking serious socialisation and good training and those are again the owners fault.

As hard as it may be, for those who don't know (or like) dogs, to understand it is not the breed at fault, but the individual dog. Dogs need to be trained and socialised to understand how to behave in a human world because they don't instinctively understand that. This socialisation and training is treated as an optional extra with most dog owners and it sickens me.
The cause of this attack is the (seriously) irresponsible owner.

I feel sorry for that little girl, because this may stop her from ever enjoying dogs in the future and I feel sorry for the dog who was burdened with an irresponsible owner who clearly needs more training and education himself.

AND I feel sorry for the Rottweiler breed in general, because it's moron owners like this that give the breed a bad name. It's sad that people will blame an entire breed for the actions of a few.

Oh and I'll also say this....Cesar Milan is an idiot who knows little to nothing about dog behaviour. His techniques hurt more than they help. If that guy was using Milan's techniques, no wonder his dog had problems.

Of course it was the owner's fault. And yes, the little girl is likely to be put off dogs - as I said, I was bitten as a child, and I'm never entirely at ease with dogs as a result. I certainly don't hate them, but I don't want to live with one.

Didn't want to start an argument. I was just giving my opinion, this isn't a debate. The "hate" is coming from BBW, not you. LOL He knows it, and I already knew he didn't like animals anyway. :p Don't assume it's always about you.

I feel for that poor baby, & I pray that she'll be okay. No child should have to suffer through such an ordeal. IMO he was careless & irresponsible & should be held accountable for what happened to that baby. That damn dog could've killed her; it had no business being around people. I don't think it's worth taking the chance of owning a breed known to have dangerous tendencies.

This story brings back terrible memories for me. My son was mauled by a neighbor's chow when he was 8, & it was a nightmare. Thank God for the plastic surgeon who was able to put my baby's face back together again. It wasn't that long ago that I came across the pictures that were taken after he received his stitches, & it amazes me how good his face looks now. I never thought he'd heal as well as he did. After it happened his face looked like ground meat...I could see his teeth through his cheek & his bottom lip was split wide open. I almost fainted when I saw him.

    Scary. :smt056

I was attacked by my grandfathers border collie as a little girl. He went crazy on my hand. I have a fear of really large dogs because of it.

I don't care if that is a service dog or not he should have been keeping a better eye on it.

My dog is only 60 lbs and has never hurt a fly but when people with kid(s) are walking toward me on the sidewalk, I hold her leash close & tight and keep her on the opposite side of the child walking our direction. My comfort level in my dog is not worth risking a child's health.

And why the fuck is a rottweiler in the mall?

I'm sorry to hear that, JC. It's extremely scary when dogs go crazy like that; especially for a small child because there's a lot of potential for severe injury or death, Even small dogs can do some serious damage. I'm jumpy around dogs myself now.

Thankfully, my son doesn't have the fear of dogs that I thought he would...I know shock isn't the right term for it, but it was like he mentally shut down & barely reacted to the whole thing. He barely blinked & shed only one tear when they were giving him the local in his lip before the doctor sewed him up. It's like his mind was protecting him from the trauma or something. Thankfully the hospital let me stay in there with him the entire time, he held my hand while I prayed & sang to him.

Owners definitely need to be more responsible, & that idiot was 100% negligent IMO.

I house sat for a friend who had a dog who was part chow. When I came in the house one day he snapped. I locked his ass his the basement and called them and said I am done. He had been weird before.

I suggested to them they needed to think about this dog's behavior. They were offended. Later the dog attacked their daughter and another kid in separate incidents. And then.............they decided to put it down. Some dogs are whacked out. They got him from a shelter and he was a chow mix. I wondered if the dog had been abused and they just weren't told.

Max, I think you are smart. My dog is 22 lbs. If kids ask to play or don't ask I say nicely............you need to ask me if you want to pet him. And I get down and stay right next to him. He has never fouled up but I don't want to take a chance that he will.

Thank you for being a responsible dog owner, Max. My dog of 10 years (who died last year :() was also good-natured, but I always did the same thing when I took her out. I didn't want to take any chances either because it's definitely not worth it. I knew too well what the risk was.

    That's a damn good question.
