C'mon man you know that sedition and terrorism charges would take years and a ton of money and resources to prosecute. The charges handed down are for slamdunk convictions, every DA and/or US Attorney office in this country plays the "lesser charge, better chance of conviction" game. Sure, it was a ramshackle nitwit convention, but that doesn't mean they weren't dangerous. WW1 started by a dimwitted assassin being at the wrong place at the right time. What do you think those guys would have done if they actually caught up with Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence?
Are you kidding? The crowd listens to a pep talk from their master, then promptly marches down to The Capitol, beat the crap out of some police officers and break into the building/select offices knowing fully well what important procedure was taking place, but it's "just a riot"? Wow! I realize their master's stooges in congress (and other public offices) made up all sorts of ridiculous reasoning seeing as they all lack backbones and not allowed to ever contradict their master, but realistic people are well aware that it was no love fest and so on. What's interesting is that many were dumb enough to have been looking for Pence. Quite dumb (or suicidal) seeing as he'd be surrounded by the USSS who would've lit them up had they managed to get close.
Fuck being 'armed'. When 20 people are beating the shit out of you with hundreds of people behind them, that's felony assault. Those domestic terrorists aren't being charged more harshly because they are White. If they had been Black or Brown, those Capitol police officers would have drawn their guns and fired. Over and over again.
They were literally chanting "Hang Mike Pence" before they stormed the capitol. Even you don't believe what you just wrote.
And then they fully expected to what, get back on the planes and fly back home like nothing happened? Because Trump absolutely would not have pardoned anyone who had been involved if Mike Pence had gotten hurt. Like so many other people, he would have absolutely left any and all of them out to dry, and wouldn't even think twice about doing it.
I would love to know the distinction between "a riot that took place in the American capital building as our leaders were in the process of confirming a new President, perpetrated exclusively by supporters of the losing candidate" and an "insurrection." I mean, I'm not saying that distinction could not exist. But goodness, that is an extremely fine hair to split. "Well, technically officer, I didn't kill my husband. I pushed him, and then he happened to fall down a flight of stairs and die."
"Technically this isn't a coup," the Trump voter said smugly as he was led away in chains along with everyone else. "The jails they are taking us to are private prisons, not military ones. It has to be the military for it to be a coup."
And this mentality is exactly why it will happen again, if we let this one go unpunished. These people still think the election was stolen, they still believe the lies that Trump is telling, and they still have zero respect for the electoral process if their guy didn't win.
