Successful men cannot live in U.S. The justice system/courts will destroy you

as an outsider looking in the settlement seems like alot but i think if you all saw the spreadsheets that those lawyers were using to come up with an amount it would put it all into perspective...they took into consideration all assets, average income, potential earnings, current lifestyle of the couple, the two children, the circumstances that caused the breakup...if tiger was paying to silence all of his affairs...why shouldn't he pay top dollar to his wife and two children...trust me he is not suffering he still has more money than every member on this forum all put together plus all of our relatives...he will continue to make money and more than likely recoup all of that and more...he can either be angry and let it ruin his life or he can chalk it up to learning and get back on the golf course...start rebuilding his reputation...this divorce is probably the best thing that could have happened to him...now he can start fresh!

Nope. The system is crazy and beyond backwards towards men. She didnt do a damn thing to earn any of that money other than getting knocked up by a rich athlete.

Like 50 Cent said in a song "Have a baby by me baby, be a millionaire"
She hit the lottery times 100000. No wonder females throw themselves at rich guys lol.

Tiger is a sucker though. He flat out shouldnt of cheated and for that matter probably shouldnt of gotten married either (should take the Derek Jeter/George Clooney route) I hope he thinks all those groupie hos were worth it....750 million dollars worth smdh.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion on the matter, we just see it very differently.

thank-you, i appreciate that...it is just my opinion...i think the settlement is relevant to his net worth...i agree with malik that this is all speculation at this point...until we get all the facts then we are just discussing a number...i will be curious to see if this is a cut/dry 750m or what else is involved

Not sure what you mean by this, he had accumulated most of his fortune before getting married, why should she be entitled to that?

she married him and became entitled to the money/assets the day they walked down the aisle...this wasn't a playdate where you can play with my toys while you are at my house but don't take anything with you when you leave...what did the prenup say? if tiger had a prenup why didn't he fight it? what role did his mother play in all of this? we have no idea who was advising him and why he agreed to this settlement[/color]

Why should she not get a lump sum and be done, why should potential earnings play into this? As far as lifestyle goes, there is not a whole lot more you can do with $750 million that you cannot do on $20-50 million. She did not create the lifestyle so why should she continue to live it once she is no longer married to the person who did create it?

she is getting a lump sum? i don't know if that means there will be no more cash flow after that? if there is not a whole lot more than a person can do with 750 million than 20-50 million then why do you care so much...to me it seems relevant...

elin did not create the financial lifestyle but she did turn tiger into a family man that many many sponsers found appealing...
in order for the children to live the lifestyle while they are with their mother then she would also benefit from the lifestyle

do you really think that elin thought she would be going through a divorce?

do you not think that the magnitude of tigers cheating came as a complete shock to her? she didn't choose this it was handed to her

Lippy, I am not sure if you are a golfer, but they are NOT guaranteed anything, they are independent contractors who must pay their own way to every tournament. There are numerous golfers who reached the pinnacle of the sport only to fall off, completely loose their game and never again regain their touch, (Ballesteros, Baker-finch, Duvall, Strange, Faldo, I could go on and on.) As a scratch handicap myself, I can attest, even at the amateur level, that there is no more difficult sport to master, and your game can leave you at any second. All this to say, even though Tiger has displayed other-worldly golfing skills to date, there is NO guarantee that we will ever see him regain his prior heights, or even win a single tournament again.

no i'm not a golfer...even if tiger never won another tournament...i don't for a second think that tiger will even flinch at 750 million...maybe i am wrong but i bet you the day all of this is over is the day tiger can wrap his brain back around the game of golf...there is more to all of this than what we are seeing on the surface...i think you are going to see a new man very soon

As an avid golfer and fan, we can agree that it would be great to see Tiger re-focused and producing wins, I for one really want to see him surpass Nicklaus' 18 majors as well as run down Snead's 83 tour wins before he retires. I don't care how rich you are, I am willing to bet that even Bill Gates would do more than flinch at the prospect of losing $750 mil.

bill gates is a business man...tiger woods is a professional athlete...two different animals...i would venture to say that bill gates and his wife make many of their own financial decisions on the other hand i bet tiger has a team of advisors...i doubt bill gates would ever cheat and put his fortune at the risk of divorce...he and his wife have built an empire and both work as a team to serve many of their own charities...they live on lake washington in seattle and have a completely different lifestyle than the woods family...it's difficult to compare the two men other than in wealth...dollars and cents...

how much money do you think elin could make on a book deal? if tiger in fact has something else to hide then his secrets are now safe with elin...i don't think for a second she is doing it for him or the money but agreed for the well being of her children...she doesn't want to be followed around having pictures of her or her children snapped and on the cover of tabloids

i hear the lawyer in you loki...i have dated a couple of lawyers...i also know that you are a man so you are seeing this as a man as well as a lawyer...i can't begin to identify with the lifestyle that the woods family lives...i could easily live on 75,000 a year for the rest of my life...that would be a comfortable number for me...more would be great and i could live on less but that for me is enough...

Its easy to say shit like that when you don't have to work for it. Id imagine anyone of us would be more than a little upset if a court award someone else three quarters of our assets.

I guarantee she would have made nothing close to 750 mill on a book. Shit JK Rowling couldn't do that off of one book so unless we suddenly find out Tiger is a wizard I doubt she was expected to make that. As far as saying he probably has advisors and Gates doesn't is ridiculous. Any large amount of wealth requires a team of advisors. Even Warren Buffet has advisors and he's the best investor since JP Morgan.

trust me when i tell you that warren buffet is making all of his own decisions...he does not even plan to leave any money to his children...someone like warren buffet doesn't lose money in ponzi schemes...he is calling the shots! he probably can account for every dime he has ever made or lost

i am going to leave it at that with you andrae...i find discussing just about any topic with you just makes my blood pressure go up and i'm having a really nice day...so i am going to just keep enjoying it without you...

Oh, come on now. Why are you bending stuff. I love ya, but you do have a tendency to go to the very, very opposite end of a spectrum in discussions.
I dont think anyone is saying she would get 750 mil for one book and thats how that number (if it is true) was decided to be the number.

I dont agree on the 750 mil.. but I dont agree with your very end of the other side either.

Im out of this thread too....

She doesn't really deserve a dime. Alimony makes sense if a Woman is destitute and needs to get on her feet after a long time away from the job market, but it should not be more than double the rate of unemployment, and it shouldn't last longer.

I don't think Men should be able to dump their wives and leave them hanging, but this is unethical and demeaning to Women. It's anti-work ethic. It's just every kind of bad.
