wake up. Sports entertainment IS a contribution to society, in the sense that it provides its viewers with something that satisfies them mentally. How dare you suggest otherwise.:p

millions of people like to watch golf and it really makes them feel better cheering and rooting for Tiger. He may be the only thing keeping some people from being depressed or to an extreme, committing suicide. Don't underestimate the power of an icon.

That's all very nice. But a billion dollars worth? You'll never convince me of that.

Ummm yes he did. When those doctors or other professionals were at home watching morning cartoons that fucker was playing golf, when those other professionals were dating and going to movies with friends that fucker was playing golf. In college when those professionals were drinking on the weekends with friends that fucker was playing golf. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't have value to others.
There pay is not discretionary its based on a capitalist model where others pay to watch him and based on that businesses endorse him to sell their products.
No one ever criticizes the owners but everyone is quick to say how much the athletes busting their asses should get. Simply unbelievable. Smh

I understand how it works, I'm saying it's ridiculous. When there so many VALUABLE and MEANINGFUL professions where pay rates are depressingly low.

And you and your far-reaching analogies... Cos Tiger didn't have any time to go out and fuck random women, he was too busy playing golf

lol...you need to head down under fanny ;)

    great points lippy

this was the thought that both my ex-husband and i had. it was financially difficult, but we both believed that it was better for the kids to be at home with me, than be stuck in daycare 5 days a week. my skills in the workforce were rusty when i returned to work and i doubt i'll ever get back to what i was earning before kids as my priority is being there for them over being at work for long hours. i'm not working full-time, but around their school hours so i can drop them off & pick them up from school & be there for them. something my parents couldn't do.

abso-bloody-lutely...!!! you always bring it...!!!! intelligent, thoughtful, insightful, funny & downright beautiful is what you are...!!!

    lol...you said it sister...!!! :smt045

i know...if that's how conversations generally go at the Whikle household, ill pass

    never seen such a close-minded, short-sighted attitude :(

Tiger's natural talent and practice evolved him into something that millions of people adore and love to watch. His contribution to society, helping to breakdown historical color barriers and to sport rivals that of anyone.

That's like saying Jackie Robinson was a baseball player, so he didn't really contribute anything because it was only baseball.

Who said that YOU'RE the one who said he didn't work any harder than those other professionals and I'm pointing out that he certainly did hater :-D
Its only far reaching because you don't agree with it.

But how is that his fault. And seriously no one ever makes a peep about the dude who made Facebook or Myspace and what exactly did they do that was so valuable? Now stalkers and child molestors have a better way to stalk kids?
Or now you can sit around bsing all day on a computer? How have their contributions better served society? But athletes always have to take the hit lol

haha whaaaat? I'm the one who's short-sighted? I'm not saying his talent shouldn't be valued, I'm arguing that the amount of money he's paid is ridiculously inflated. It's the same for any celebrity of any sort, it's just crazy.

Whicks, I totally agree and can't justify the crazy exorbitant paychecks (tho it's a free market of supply and demand) but I will disagree just on the meaningful contribution part. Since the beginning of time, man has understood the need for indulging or observing competitive some fun. It's a great release for the mind if you LOVE COMPETITIVE SPORTS!

I also see first hand up close the relationship bonds that often occur between fathers and sons, mothers and daughters and vice versa through sports (ie: attending a football or baseball game, watching the SB). Even when your team loses, the abilty to commiserate on the same wave-length as complete strangers who "get" your angst, can't be found in other form (perhaps political campaigns comes to mind). :D

You're actually cosigning Lippy's nonsense? Tiger Woods' endorsements were mainly and mostly based on him being a WINNER. Which endorsement was family centered? He was a Nike spokesman way before Elin got there as well Gatorade and Gillete so which endorsement did she help him snag. The only one I can imagine is Buick and if you guys think that company paid him at least 200 million(half is a hundred for all you math whizzes) then please pass what you're smoking.
Talk about over inflated value. You guys act like if Elin never came into the picture this dude would be doing mattress and credit commercials. Lmao

I'm having a hard time understanding your indignation over the fact that she got 20%, MrFantastic.

She didn't rake him over the coals for HALF. She probably could've. She got 20%. And in the case of Tiger Woods, 20% was 100 million dollars.

    It's 20-fucking-percent.

Hell, she should get 20% just from pregnancy and delivery. Do you know how much havoc pregnancy wreaks on the human body? Do you have any idea how difficult labor is? No, and you never will, because you don't have a uterus.

I have a difficult time understanding why, for hundreds of years, women were, and still ARE, if you view this forum- viewed as weak and expendable when they're the ones with the friggin' uterus bringing life forth- but if you can bring home the mastodon from the fields, or the paycheck from the skyscraper, you're apparently worth more than she is, hands down, by virtue of the fact that you've got a dick and can bring home groceries and paycheck (because apparently she's not capable of doing that along with carrying your children???).

Upshot of the thread so far; Tiger is nothing special, yet whatever Elin got is justified 'cause Tiger (who's nothing special remember) didn't keep his dick in his pants. In fact, she should be entitled to an automatic 20% just for having his kids, Tiger cheating or no.

    Did I miss anything?

It's not the first time this has happened, you know ....for the life of me I can't remember what else it was because it was eons ago, but trust me, it did happen!!
