10 year anniversary of the beginning of the war in Iraq.

A Iraq war veteran, who is dying in a hospice wrote this last letter to President Bush and Vice President Cheney. He basically calls them war criminals.

If anyone has a right to make a judgement on the war and those who started it, it's this man, and those in his same situation.

I'd like to see Fox News try to dispute this. I knew Iraq was a big error. I knew Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. I knew that there was another motive for invading Iraq. Now I am convinced. I will pray for this man, our servicemen and women, this country and the whole world.

iraq was the seizing of an opportunity

    nothing more, nothing less

as many, many others have said...with so many dictators and oppressive regimes in the world, why did we have to go after Iraq? They never had nukes, BUT other countries sure as hell do/did:smt018

i just keep replaying Hans Blix and the UN inspectors repeatedly saying iraq had no fucking nukes. mind you, nukes/wmds was the primary reason we invaded. the administration kept selling that shit to americans to get them to back the war. hell, they took it a step further and said Iraq harbored terrorists responsible for 9/11 when the wmd card looked played.

Thank you for sharing this. The sad thing is that Bush and Cheney will never feel guilt or shame, they got what they wanted and that is all that matters to them.

We would not be in Iraq if the Bush administration carefully read senator Joe Wilson's findings. Instead, his wife, Valery Plame got outed for being a CIA operative. Chemical agents were found, but they were no good(these agents were stored in tanks and had a limited shelf-life). The video of the jet fighter spraying chemicals was outdated(the jet was destroyed a couple of years after the first Gulf War). And a lot of folks profitted from this war.

id rather the administration been upfront and said what their real intentions were, than play the smoke and mirrors game. Oil is precious and limited. Every dumbass knows that. More people would back a war for resources they fucking need to fuel their wasteful habits than politicians think.

Secrecy was in abundance in the Bush administration from jumpstreet. Secrecy bound that administration tightly around their fingers and We, The People, paid the price. Oil was the main motivation.

"I would not be writing this letter if I had been wounded fighting in Afghanistan against those forces that carried out the attacks of 9/11. Had I been wounded there I would still be miserable because of my physical deterioration and imminent death, but I would at least have the comfort of knowing that my injuries were a consequence of my own decision to defend the country I love. I would not have to lie in my bed, my body filled with painkillers, my life ebbing away, and deal with the fact that hundreds of thousands of human beings, including children, including myself, were sacrificed by you for little more than the greed of oil companies, for your alliance with the oil sheiks in Saudi Arabia, and your insane visions of empire."

This is the part that always makes me angry as well. I think a lot of young people joined the military to fight back against those who committed atrocities against the US on 9/11. Fighting a war for the wrong or unknown reasons lowers morale and makes any suffering pointless. Did we learn nothing from Vietnam?
