I think my issue with just letting people like him run their mouths, is that it perpetuates narrow mindedness. Ignoring it sends the message that there's nothing wrong with his comments. Why shouldn't we expect those in the public eye to behave better? It's not just about not advocating violence. We should be demanding equality, holding people accountable for their words, not spreading old world ignorance from generation to generation. I know that sounds idealistic, but people with a national spotlight should be held responsible for the messages they send. May not be realistic, but it irks me when this shit just slides. I feel like sometimes we get lazy as a society and just lay down figuring we can't change anything so why even bother. I'd rather see people fight for what's right, regardless of how impossible it seems.

We should reverse the rhetoric and claim that by allowing Phil Robertson to speak ill-fated and illogical messages, we're only exercising political correctness in that regard and thus, we should respond accordingly by calling him out on how much of a fucking idiot he is.

And you're right, words like that just give people the incentive that it's okay to take a mile and exercise some violent discourse because you're not okay with the person being different from you.

The fact that he got away with those remarks about "happy" Blacks is outragous especially the one on those before "entitlements". Whites get welfare too which did escape him.

To me it's more about everyones right to exercise you right to freedom of speech, anybody that disagree, have a right also to speak up and exercise their right to freedom of speech against it. That is the cost of freedom of speech for everybody.

The rest, when people lose their livelihood over it, is a case by case basis, but yes, we are an oversensitive society. Although most occasions we hear of public people loosing their livelihood, is the company being concentrated on profit, not some great moral stand. We all know that.

Oh, now that's the funniest thing anyone could say in here. It's only the very thing we do in just about every thread. Smh.

I know right?! Imagine actually putting yourself out there to do what's right even when it doesn't affect you personally! That's some crazy shit. Instead, we need more people who are strictly in it for their own well being. Fuck all that love thy neighbor shit.

*Your comment is about as dumb as all that ^^.

Not only what raider said, folks, but it's about THE PRINCIPLE.

I'm not in love with gays, nor blacks for that matter, nor any other group...

...But I think we all should gang up on people who aspire to be bullies. Especially when they have the "platform" to make their shit a reality

Vigilance is (and will always be) the price of "freedom" in the u.s. of a, especially for those groups for whom hatred against them is just part of the fabric of society

Given that she's a conservative Log Cabin Republican, going by her username, it's pretty evident that she would actually take a more politically correct approach and just dismiss his statements as just "opinion." That part, I'd expect and wasn't referring to.

I'm addressing the part regarding what causes homosexuality and it just reinforces that the right are the party of anti-science, anti-reason, and above all, anti-intellectual.

Now granted, sexuality is fluid and an ever-evolving study about individual behaviors and we continuously learn more about the varying degrees of it. Homosexuality is no different, as are other sexual orientations and identities. What we DO know is that the cause of homosexuality is more biological than anything else, although the environment plays a part, though minor.

The common sense thing to remind yourself is that if being gay is a choice, according to the conservative mind, then all you need to do is provide that burden of proof and simply "switch".

Sadly. We're more about preserving the right to speak their minds rather than educate a crowd of people to help better this country intellectually. But no, appeasing a certain crowd out of political correctness is more vital to the well being of the nation than reminding them that there are such a thing as fact and to dismiss it would only limit your worldview even further.

    My mistake.
