---are brothers accepted openly over there?

well... heads need to be careful, if they partake in any 'substances'-- even having prescription drugs in your name can get you in trouble..
Dallas Austin was facing a heavy prison term not too long ago, for apparently having a few crumbs worth of coke in a luggage bag.. Quincy Jones and some U.S. diplomats had to intervene..

It is the oasis for soldiers who had gone to Iraq or Afghanistan if they are lucky. Dallas was a idiot. Hope it was a lesson for him not to push the envelope.

I am moving to Dubai in less than 1 month and am excited and nervous about it. Most of the population of Dubai and the UAE in general were born elsewhere. "Foreigners are very welcomed for their expertise in required areas. My fiance lived there last year and he said that the clubs are great and a lot of women are interested in black men. A lot of the women are from Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia etc.
It is illegal to have premarital sex so you need to be careful. A woman was just arrested in Dubai for having sex on the beach with a man that she was not married to. Bad idea. The clubs go all night and it really is a huge party place. I am looking forward getting settled in and get to see the city.

I have ethical problems with spending any money there. I really want to see the islands, but until they improve their human rights violations I wont go.

They also openly discriminate. In many of their job postings, they will actually ask for specific ethnicities and bar others. Your pay check will depend on which passport you carry.

Pls. keep us posted on the nightlife, peeps, ect. in Dubai.

It really is poppin' there...but, u gotta remember that it's a Islamic state -- although more relaxed -- but it's still Islamic.

    Hey Kid Rasta,

That is why I said I am excited and nervous. I really am a bit hesitant to live in an Islamic country. It is very progressive for an Islamic country but none the less, is far more restrictive than what I am comfortable with. I will have to watch myself in terms of my dress and my mouth!

In terms of human rights they have made huge progress in the last few years. Women have rights, job opportunities and access to education. They also have recourse for women who are victims of domestic violence which is unheard of in other Middle Eastern countries.

I think it will be an amazing learning experience and I am looking forward to it. I will indeed keep you posted on the night life etc. I am going for 2 years so I should get a good insight into what is going on.

How about they quit using boy 3,4 or 5 years old to ride in camel races? And how about they quit sexually molesting domestic workers who have no recourse? How about they quit discriminating on employement and pay?

    I could go on.

    Hey Fly Girl,

Don't get me wrong. I totally hear what you are saying. All I am saying is that they have made some progress. Remember that it has only been a country since 1971 with RAK joining in 1972. I have to be positive about the changes that have been made as it is my job. Al least it has been shown that there is room and some willingness to negotiate and change.
All the things you said are indeed true. But....there has been legislation passed to outlaw camel jockeys. It is being enforced everywhere. Of course not. As for pay and employment discrimination, of course that is happening but it happens EVERYWHERE. In the US and Canada women are still paid less than their male counterparts. Visible minorities are not given opportunities that they are qualified for and companies both large and small are VERY hesitant to hire skilled immigrants. People look at names on job applications all the time and try to determine the ethnicity of a person and once they determine they are not of the desired ethnic origin they refuse to interview them. Not interviewing them allows them to by pass possible legal repercussions down the line. They have even started airing commercials in Canada about the need to hire skilled immigrants by using a parody of a Canadian applying for a job in India and the Indian bosses saying "Well he's qualified but he is Canadian, and that accent he has, I can't understand him" This situation is a reality everywhere. As unfortunate as it is, it is a reality.
As for the sexual molestation of domestic workers, that is why I am going. That is my field of "expertise" and I am going to look at, work on trafficking laws of women and men. It is a very complex situation as I am sure you know but I have to go with hope that some changes can be made. If not there is no point in my going. I am an eternal optimist and hope that fair and open dialogue will bring about change no matter how small.

In a Muslim state there is always a catch. There are very few liberal Muslim states like Morocco and Lebanon.

    Hmmmmmm,
There may be vast differences but...

    1.The Death Penalty
    2. Three Strikes You're Out legislation
    3. Police Abuse and Corruption
    4. The highest incarcerated population in the world

    Speaking of incarceration....

Black males are 6 times more likely to be incarcerated than white males

Black females are 4 times more likely to be incarcerated than white females

Black males have a 48% higher rate of incarceration for first time drug offences than a white offender

Racially biased crack cocaine vs. powder cocaine laws that target black males based on who is selling crack and who is using cocaine. An offender needs 100 times the amount of powder cocaine than crack cocaine to be given the same sentence.

    Child Migrant Farm Workers

Withdrawl from the International Court of Justice in 1986

Oh yeah....a little thing called Guantanamo Bay.

You are right it is not comparable

I will file this one under that ol American faerie tale mentality where anything that happens to US is the worst of the worst of the worst. And those things that happen to other countries, well that is just not like it happening to US.

It's one thing to have to contend with religious fundamentalists on U.S. soil, but an entirely different animal to reside in a country where they've already won the battle and have their values codified into the rule of law.

Some of you would be smart enough not to fuck up in such a country, some of you...

Nah they wont. They will run over there and treat it like it is their playground (pretty much how most Americans treat the rest of the world) and when they realize those guys arent "playing" they will cry foul and complain that it "isnt fair". Sorta like the American kid that got caned in Singapore.

But hey, if you can go clubbing and fuck some non-black women then who cares about what they do to other people, people from countries they feel are inferior.
