In my opinion Drake may as well hang up the mic, Kdot has ended his career. And damnnn Kdot is finnne these days!
Hmmm... So "word in the streets" is Lil Wayne was the rapper most expected to headline, with friends Drake and Nicki Minaj to join him, however appointed Half-Time Show Committee member, Jay-Z, blocked it and backed Kendrick.
Interesting.... Funkmaster Flex addressed the recent backlash over Kenrick Lamar being selected as the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show headlining act over Lil Wayne, and says it’s time for people to stop blaming Roc Nation boss, Jay-Z...
Cam'ron, too?? '...Cam’ron, longtime rival of Jay-Z, is speaking out after learning that Lil Wayne will not be performing at next year’s Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans. On his It Is What It Is podcast with Ma$e (great podcast BTW), Cam said that while he likes Kendrick Lamar, whom he called “one of the top artists of this generation, period,” he hates the selection.... “It’s one person who’s stopping this. It’s not really a secret. (Alluding to Jay-Z) Lil Wayne had a problem with somebody before who’s kinda part of the organization running it. This is payback. Who’s Lil Wayne’s artist? Drake. This is crazy, bro. It’s ridiculous … Lil Wayne not to be performing in New Orleans (his hometown) for the Super Bowl is egregious, and it gotta stop.”
The NFL Committee & the city hosting the Super Bowl ALWAYS have been the ones to have final say on Super Bowl halftime performers. Jay-Z doesn't have any say outside of advisory picks on talent. Typical internet Twitter Nigga internet drama & hot takes being thrown out per usual. SMDH.
'...Nicki Minaj is the latest rapper to speak out against Jay-Z snubbing Lousiana rap legend, Lil Wayne, for next year’s Super Bowl performance, which is taking place in Weezy’s hometown. On X, Minaj posted a series of tweets, seemingly aimed at Hov. “I love watching the whole industry play dumb time after time. lol. The truth is the truth no matter who tells it. Picking & choosing who yall accept truth from then BAM! Pow! might tell you a joke but won’t tell you a lie. Bwahahahaaha,” one tweet reads. In another tweet, Minaj claimed that Hov, was going to “get n-ggas in line every time,” and that she had tried to warn people about the Roc Nation boss, but that people were too preoccupied with trying to attend the billionaire rapper’s famous brunches. Minaj added, “Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!!!! THE GOAT?!!!!!!!!!!! Nola what’s good?!!!!!! Eminem stood firm on having 50Cent come out. A white man. Sh-t sad. House N-GGER TINGZ. but it’s GOOD FI DEM!!!!!!! No loyalty ? Welp. then niggaz will keep son’ing you!!!!!”
WHITE MEN GONNA MAKE THEIR MONEY BASED ON WHO IS GONNA BRING IN THE MOST EYES (ADVERTISING DOLLARS) TO THE HALFTIME SHOW.
To downplay Jay-Z's influence is preposterous. Jay-Z is THE wealthiest music artist in the world, with Forbes estimating his net worth at $2.5 billion in 2024. In fact, Jack Dorsey, owner of Twitter, was putty in Jay-Z's hand in a terrible 2021 acquisition deal for Dorsey of Jay-Z's streaming platform, Tidal. So there is no denying Jay-Z has enourmous power over all that he touches and oversees. In regards to the S.B H/Time Show, and his influence.... Snippets posted below from this U.SA article... '...Jay-Z in fact, is reshaping the image of the NFL in ways no one ever has. He is unabashedly injecting Black culture into the league's Super Bowl bloodstream... It was five years ago when Jay-Z's Roc Nation entered into a partnership with the NFL. The NFL said at the time... "Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by rapper and businessman Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter, is entering into a multiyear partnership with the NFL to enhance the NFL's live game experiences...." What's happened since? ... His "social justice efforts" remain non-existent. The live game experience part? That's completely different. During his initial press conference in 2019, he sat next to Commissioner Roger Goodell and said: “I think we’ve moved past kneeling. I think it’s time to go on to actionable items.... "I'm really into action – I'm into real work. I'm not into how it looks. How it looks only lasts for a couple months until we start doing the work. I've been in this position many times." ..Jay-Z continues to engineer how the NFL presents itself to the public by utilizing the popularity of its biggest event, the Super Bowl... by pushing through rappers in the NFL's premier event ... That the NFL's mostly conservative owners are allowing Jay-Z to have this type of influence has been a remarkable thing to watch. The latest proof of this came when the NFL, Roc Nation and Apple Music announced that Kendrick Lamar will captain this year's Super Bowl Halftime Show. Jay-Z, who is co-producer of the halftime show, said in a statement: “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.” There are some NFL owners who'd probably rather watch Kid Rock perform...So the fact Jay-Z keeps pushing through rappers in the NFL's premier event is a stunning thing. The League doesn't seem content with a football game, it wants to be a factor in the culture game. Specifically, the Black culture game....The NFL wants to use Black culture (Rap) as fuel to attract younger fans who do embrace it....'
Jay-Z is not the final say so on who is chosen for Superbowl Halftime show. That's the driving narrative that's being pushed by folks who live & die strictly by the internet. No one is downplaying Jay-Z's influence & role in pushing black talent as headliners for Super Bowl shows.
