Sad that innocence is lost of young men............and you can see their souls and sadness through their eyes. More pics at link: How do life-changing experiences concretely impact the way we look? Does tragedy truly show up in our eyes and brow? These are questions that fascinate Claire Felicie, who photographed the faces of 20 Dutch Marines before, during, and after their tour of duty in Afghanistan. From first photo to last photo, only 12 months passed, but a great deal happened in these young men's lives. Yes, some of the shifts in appearance are environmentally induced; there's nothing other than the scorching Afghan sun to blame for those new freckles and bronzed noses. But there is something else in that third picture; a dullness to the eyes, a stiffness to the jaw. Isn’t there? http://www.slate.com/blogs/behold/2...aces_before_during_and_after_afghanistan.html
The first guy, I see trauma in his eyes in the middle photo.. The second guy, in the final pic, his eyes are dead, lifeless.... The third guy's middle pic, he looks shell-shocked or like he's checked out....Quite chilling all around.
I feel the last guy tells the story the most. The second picture of a guy who simply doesn't want to be there and has seen too much for any man woman or child. The first pic of the first guy looks like someone who hasn't yet grasped the reality of what he signed up for.
The second one haunts me, I know so many guys i went to hs who have served in these in my opinion useless wars and how much it has effected their families, wives, kids..lives..forever and for what?
