Does the media encourage the idea of the sexual prowess of the black man?

I often watch the Food Network, and they have a show called 'Down Home with the Neely's.' For those of you that haven't seen it, it is a husband and wife cooking team that own a few BBQ restaurants in Tennessee. I enjoy watching the show, but I have noticed there is a lot of sexual inneundo on the show that I've never noticed on other cooking shows that I watch. I'm curious if that is just how they interact with one another on a daily basis or if they are encouraged to hype up the sexual tension on the show. All I know is that after watching the show, I normally have an appetite for more than just food. I would like to know what other people think after watching the first few minutes of this clip.

I agree that most movies and tv shows make bm come across as hyper sexualized. We come across as smooth and promiscous.

 

Well I gotta admit GG that's the first time I've seen that much male/female interaction on a cooking show with that much tongue in cheek banter (no pun intended). But they're actually really cute together. I'd rather watch people who keep it interesting like that, than watch people who put me to sleep. They are definitely not sleep inducing!

 

They definitely keep you up (no pun intended as well.) I actually like them. Of course, I consider myself the Queen of the sexual innuendo. I hadn't really thought about how much is on the show until one of my friends said that it was just too much sex early in the morning. Then, one day my sister-in-law said 'Why don't they just have sex on the counter?' This started making me think about how it was portraying black men as such overtly sexual beings. You'll never hear Bobby Flay or Wolfgang Puck discussing 'rubbing his meat' on a show.

 

No and let me just be thankful for that. I do not want an image of either of those men in my head with the words 'rubbing his meat' echoing in the background. That's an appetite killer all the way around.

 

:smt043:smt043:smt043Actually, I find Bobby Flay kind of hot. I'm not sure why, but I do. After seeing his chefography, my views on him changed, and I found him attractive. There is a show that comes on after the Neelys called 'Big Daddy's House.' He gets me kind of wound up too. When he says 'Big Daddy's gonna do it for you,' I get a little weak in my knees. Maybe I just think about sex too much.
