Doctor's Advice: Leave the Toilet Seat Up

UK: Doctor Joe Philip from Leighton Hospital in Crewe has recommended that toilet seats be left up for the sake of male toddlers after seeing an increasing number of injuries caused by toilet seats falling back down on little boys' penises.

In four published cases injuries caused were serious enough to warrant overnight hospitalisation. In each case the toddler had lifted the seat and had it fall back down. Philip also expressed concern about the growing number of heavy toilet seats.

"As any parent knows, toilet training can be a difficult time with any toddler. We are concerned that the growing trend of heavy toilet seats poses a risk not only to their health, but to their confidence," said Dr Philip.
