You said the "poor side of town" in your original post, that was what I took issue with, had you said the "rough side" or "next to a strip joint" maybe I would have understood your statement more.

However, as to the idea that a good telling off is better when accentuated with certain vocabulary, well, I may have felt that a good telling off did some good, a few years ago, but now I really don't think there's anything that warrants that much negative energy from me.

ahhhh i'm not into people who cuss---just makes them sound ingorant in my opinion
i mean, i can understand if a cuss word slips if you rear-end someone (or something sudden or unexpected like that) but i just don't like when ppl curse because they think it makes them sound "cool" or something
    that's just stupid :smt011

It is widely agreed that people who curse frequently, particularly in mixed or strange company for the most part, do not read and are thus void of a developed vocabulary and the ability to express them selves.
Sadly many black men regard good grammatical skills in the English language as too white, too weak and too uncle-tomish…so we instead embrace Ebonics and slang laced with profanity as a means of communication. The net result is that has become a dependency….. with the broad perception that vulgarity, profanity, ignorance and slang are all synonymous with modern day hip-hop cultured black men. And since it appears to O.K. with us… that we continue to relate this way to our women and friends and family……society appears content to let us continue to be uniquely identified this way.

    I read.
    And I curse.

Nah, I got to a lot of football matches and we chant a lot. And 95% of the chants involve swearing, and rightly so. You need to let Manchester City and their fans know just what a bunch of so-and-so's they really are.
But yeah, I curse when I'm angry and when I watch football. There's also a few things that English people say that others would consider cursing, but we don't generaly see it as being that offensive. ('it was pissing it down!' 'I went out last night and got absolutely wankered!' etc.)

EDIT: I actually do curse hella in public. Just not many people hear me because I'm a quiet person and hate drawing attention to myself.

I read 5 newspapers a day, including 2 international. (get them for free off the international flights). And somehow, I still like to cuss on occasion.

Some of the most highly intelligent people have been caught cussing. Shit happens.

I'm still trying to figure out if you were trying to be sarcastic.

Its old wives tales and a wide generalization. Wrong one at that. Its how society has brainwashed us to think that people who curse are less intelligent, less cultured or whatever other myth that's been instilled in us. Those that believe that shit or think that way about people that curse are very close minded and judgemental individuals.

I don't curse at all, never used too. I do not have a problem if others do,but maybe i will have a little if every second word is curse:p
