There is definitely a lack of television shows and movies based upon IRs. I remember just one sitcom in which an IR couple was at the center of the series, and that is Whoopi Goldberg's defunct series involving a "white acting" black man and a ghetto white woman. And of course, there aren't many movies about it. We look on this site for any hints that there may be a black man coupled with a white woman in a movie, or on a television series. And when we do get something, there is usually something disappointing about it. I can't wait to see Greta, but I am put off by the fact that the BM has a criminal background. On the bright side, Hilary Duff is among the most popular white actresses of the younger age bracket, and so far may be our equivalent to a Julia Roberts or a Charlize Theron. Younger people are not as racist as older people, so IR movies tend to be more popular with the younger demographic. The success of Save The Last Dance is proof of this. Also, many movies on the Disney Channel have such relationships. But anyways, the sci-fi community feels cheated by Hollywood too. Most of what is on the SciFi Channel is pure crap, and there aren't many truly good scifi movies out there. Because of this, some fans took matters into their own hands, producing independently produced scifi shows and movies, many of which are distributed on the Internet. With Youtube, video editing software (many good free programs for this), a 3D modeling program (such as the free Blender) and a decent DV camera, you can make your own TV show and distribute it over the Internet. I think that if we really want satisfying shows, we might have to do it ourselves. Read this blog post. http://www.sfsignal.com/archives/006131.html
