First of all I'd like to say I think it's great that they are casting the first ever "black princess" (it should have been done a long time ago). In the beginning they weren't sure if they were going to cast a black man as the "prince" apparently. On one hand they were worried about enforcing the "to each his own" but on the other hand they didn't want to put her with a white guy and be accused of saying "see? all things are equal". One question I have is why don't they ever have a movie where a white woman falls in love with a black man if they want to show everyone how advanced they are? I mean in the Haunted Mansion, a black woman is the love object of a white man, so why is it that the other way around is so taboo? :(

I forgot this film was still being planned.. hopefully it will be successful at the box office.. and at least now DisneyLand/World can start hiring some black girls to be the princesses who walk around the parks.. the look & layout of most amusement parks reinforces a 'racist' worldview, but anyway..

oddly enough, when i used to go to Disney World down in Orlando, I did not see black princesses. I never really gave that any thought tho.

turn-arounds are happening in other places tho. Remember Halle Berry portraying Catwoman (white females usually portray her in comics/on-screen, with the exception of Eartha Kitt)? I'm still waiting for a brotha to play Batman tho....bring some more equal-opportunity to these superhero roles

um this what someone posted about the prince:

Once known as Prince Harry, is rumoured to be a European Prince with a Spanish/Italian accent. No one has been picked to voice the Prince yet. Either that or Disney don't wish for that sort of information to be leaked so early on in the production process (I don’t blame them for keeping quiet). Since all the controversy following the ethnicity of the Prince, it's rumoured that he is no longer European, which is why there was a subsequent name change.

Prince Naveen is supposedly from a fictitious country called Maldakesh. Maldakesh however was apparently once a place in old, Northern African fairytales.

The origin of the name Naveen comes from India, which is leading people to believe that Prince Naveen may be of Asian heritage.

Some things I found floating around on the net about the Prince:

    -play an early 20's male
-capable of being a romantic lead
    -gregarious, fun loving, free spirited
-always likable, even when being irresponsible
-show passion for Jazz and zest for life
-an invented accent that has the romantic suavity of Italian with a sprinkling of mid-east exoticism.
-accent must be believable & natural
-please do not let the level of the accent get in the way of the acting

i remember Brandy doing a princess type movie..

I think it was a spin on "Cinderella," European culture and the sort. Only difference was that instead of being white, the princess was black. That was a ways back tho.

I would like to see a spin on Cinderella, with a white girl and a black "prince." (that actually gets serious play time in the movie theater, and not become some direct-to-DVD joint)

The problem will be the "White Prince" which will not go well in the black community.

with white cops getting cleared in the shootings of unarmed black guys, you damn right it won't go well in the black community

on a side note, joke about Jesse and Al all you want (not that anyone is)..

those guys been in the fight for years, and they've seen plenty of stuff like this happen (remember, we only pay attention to what's actually reported on..chances are there are more incidents, which are likely race related, happening more often, that they know about)..

they've been going to bat for people when no one else would, to make sure that OUR (yes, we do benefit collectively, from victories that are not directly related to us) lives are easier

that unarmed black dude could have been any one of us, and i'm sure your family would want the NAACP to get involved to help.

this isn't the first time somethin like this happened..

cops get scared of black guys or whatever, and just bust guns..

to be cleared of all charges is a slap in our face

that's some good o' boy shit
