 :!: Let's hope so one day in an IR romance movie but it looks like the NY Daily News is bringing up the old dirt that's in a new book by Allison Samuels called "Off The Record". :? Here's the link: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/485276p-408553c.html
Black women are being sensitive but I suppose it's understandable. Some people believe they 'own' their idols. No different from white men who say things like: 'I'd never let MY daughter......' or 'What's she doing going with him and not one of us'....
I will not hold my breath knowing his record. Besides If I was a trillionaire I would love to have them in my movie expense not spared.
look at the letters that were sent to taye diggs house and the athletes houses. sad to say the but brothers who go interracial run the risk of having their careers constantly slurred, the only ones immune are athletes because their success is objective and not due to opinions. if mr a runs faster than mr b or score more points than mr b then you cannot argue that mr b is better. But in sectors like acting and music, basically media, then whether or not you are good or bad you will get slated by the peeps of black female magazines, look at taye diggs and wesley snipes those two brothers can do no right and are constantly attacked yet there are plenty more white women than black, noone sticks up for them. but I dont blame denzel for his stance, if you are going to go interracial at least the new fans you win over should support you, but thats not the case, for that reason brothas like taye diggs constantly suffer. I would ask every black man outthere to take a good look at denzel's statements because will smith does pretty much the same thing and those two brothas are virtual certainties to have box office hits in any film they do, yet wesley snipes goes straight to dvd. you can guarantee that if wesley snipes was one of those who always shouted from the roof tops how much he loved black women he would get less criticism. and if black women criticise a black man long enough then white women invariably follow, its like the ww dont realise that all the extra criticism the man is getting is because he is dating a ww, the ww will not stick up for that actor/musician and will instead add that extra slur as a piece of gossip to their magazines in doing this they take a negative local slur and turn it into a nationwide perception. All the gossip the people in the mainstream media get about black artists come from black media, black media is run by black women, if you constantly beat your chest for black women they will feed the mainstream media good publicity, if you get serious with a white girl they will try and diminish your celebrity as much as they can because they worry that others might see you and decide to date a white girl. the reality is that even though alot of black men like to think that by going interracial that they win over a new set of fans the reality is quite different as most of the new fans dont materialise, in reality most white women already think they are the pinnacle of beauty (they probably are but not all of them) so they dont get excited seeing a denzel with a white woman instead they use it to inflate their ego's, I urge you guys to think hard about what denzel said because white women dont support black artists/actors as much as some people here would like to think. as a side note denzel is on a good thing, he gets to bang all these hot women and then he takes out the scene, he has his cake and eats it.
well, I don't really buy into this hype, it just doesn't add up. First, he refuses to kiss in a movie, but kissing on stage in front of a much bigger and worldwide audience, like he did with Julia, is okay for him? Makes no sense to me. Second, I haven't seen him having tons of steaming love scenes with black women either. When it comes to love scenes, he is probably the most asexual actor in hollywood, period. And lastly, the total black population is 12.8%, with some more women than men, so lets estimate a black women population approx. around 8% of the total US population. I don't see how some hang ups of ~8% (minus the black women who are too young or to old to go to the movies, minus the ones who don't oppose interracial couples, ect.) are going to make or break an actors neck. That's simply not realistic. In this context, I found an interesting assertion in an article about the same issue (Seems like his "reasons" turn like flags with the wind): Whole article here If you ask me why some black actors have more success than others, then I would say that it has of course to do with his talent and with the quality of the movies. If you look at the movies Denzel is performing in, then it's pretty obvious that a Denzel in the cast is always a guarantee for a high class movie, that's not always the case with, for instance, Snipes. Over here, Denzel is one of the highest rated actors as well, and people over here really give a shit about the color of someones love interests.
It’s not about how many blacks there are. But what they do with their money. Black spending power is around $723 billion. Denzel does not want to ostracize black women or white men, since he is one of the most bankable black men in that category. Like Taye Diggs whom had a huge black female audience after Stella got her groove back. However, once he married Idina Menzel that pretty much disappeared. The problem is that alot of black actors are more supported by black audiences. The black actors, who actually have a lot of support from white audiences such as Will Smith, Denzel Washingston, etc., look what they have to do to keep those audiences. Cameron Diaz was first set to star opposite Will Smith in Hitch but then a passive Hispanic woman was cast. A Hispanic woman will not piss off the black women or white men. Will Smith was pretty vocal about that.
That's one fact that really needs to sink in. Quite simply, I believe Denzel feels that since there's no lack of WW worshipping from one end of the spectrum to the other it doesn't take him to affirm it. He also knows how fickle white audiences can be so why not give consideration to those who have been solid. I get the feeling he walks with a sense of community that's wiped clean in some. And lastly he probably keeps his daughter in mind.
yeah white audiences can be fickle....but rest assured BW are not mere bystanders in the decisions that some BM actors make or don't make regarding IR films/plays/etc. Snipes is a poor example because he has always had issues with women and many BM and BW still don't forgive him considering he likely was the one who beat up Halle Berry years ago leaving her with greatly reduced hearing in one of her ears (this was back when Halle was black america's sweetheart).....he comes across as being a little rough and pair that with his disdain for BW leaves him up shit creek Taye Diggs insists on doing IR shows and movies and by doing so....he will alienate whatever fans he has left......Sidney Poitier was able to pull it off because he was never seen as a sex symbol....women found him attractive because of his articulate nature and legendary acting skills.....Taye was a sex symbol first than a good actor....and BW don't like losing their sex symbols just like WM or even BM Which brings me to the magic trick.......for a BM to succeed with a WW as his wife while working in hollywood....he must gain fame as a solid actor than if he becomes a sex symbol.....so be it. You can't be a pretty face who then becomes recognized for your acting. Wesly roundly rejected BW....that's his own damn fault....Taye is too pushy trying to spread IR love....Will and Denzel won't risk it because they have gone too far to turn back......Sidney figured it out a long time ago.......he never went out of his way to rub it in people's faces and show the world they are wrong.
And Quincy Jones, Wesley Snipes, etc. You just have to know that interracial is still in that unacceptable class and bare with it. It was hugely hated back then and one thing we need to know about hate is that you can slow it down but you can't kill it so hate is going to always be around and you have to make the choice is you going to let hate dictate your life or love.....Real simple, hard to do, but real simple to choose.
If you ask me, interracial movies between black men and white women are harder to pull off now than there ever were. I'm waiting for someone to dissent and i'd explain just why.
 Yeah LC it seems like right now HOLLYWEIRD is trying to push the "Something New" thing with black women & white men when in real life it's still more brothas & white ladies OR white men & Asian ladies that's really going on. :!: But I would like to read your views on this as well.
What is your opinion of the films of Mario Van Peebles? I know some are B flicks but I had to admit he delivers on IR.
I do commend Van Peebles,Jackson, and others who had the chance to do IR inspite of a lack of press attention. Let get a list together for the IR film that meets the standards beyond a peck on the cheek.
