 I still believe that Denzel and even Will Smith could have a white female lead if they really wanted to. Especially Denzel and even Will despite what happened with HITCH :!:
And then the movie does 7 mil at the box office and they lose credibility as actors, despite their successes? Yeah, smart move indeed.
If Frank Lucas was married to a white woman in real life and Denzel is involved in this movie, then you know why a white woman wasn't cast in this role. Hollywood has a recent history of matching blacks Americans with Latinas whenever they want to portray an interracial relationship and there's a black man involved. Besides, Denzel has admitted in the past that he doesn't want to upset his black female fan base by getting hot and heavy with a white woman in his movies. But I will say one thing: at least they are matching the bulls up with some fine ass Latinas. I admit it; I have a thing for Latin chicks and most of the music I buy is Latin jazz. Peace.
I don't know what is with Denzel and trying to placate bw. Its his life and he should do what he wants. Instead of doing whatever someone tells him to do. I like him as an actor but as a person he needs to stop making other peoples issues his. He was too scared to give Julia Roberts a friendly kiss in public. Its ridiculous.
 Just because they're in a movie with a white woman?! :? I disagree with that because it depends on if the movie is good or not. If it's a good flick then people would turn out to see it. And if it's not then so be it but not because of the BM/WW deal.
Hey folks, I see we're back on this IR in La La Land subject again. First let's remember this, when it comes down to money and white women, Hollywood isn't as liberal as you think. White execs aren't ready to share power with brothers for one and # 2, White men in general are still threatened by the facts or fiction of a Black man's penis, especially when it comes using it on white woman who by the way is becoming more and more open to getting sexually involded with Black men. The sad part is that most of the high ranking decision makers in Hollywood are Jewish men who know the history of America's mistreatment of the Jews and Blacks so you would think that they would use this as ways to get back at WASP, The KKK and others. Meaning, produce films showing Black men/ White women love but that might cause Jewish women to want some Mandingo too
 You are right in that it's a money thing and if they feel that Denzel, or Will Smith, or Wesley Snipes can make them good money with an IR flick then they'll push it...bottom line :!:
I've learned to not look to Hollywood for anything. In fact, what I don't like about Hollywood goes far beyond how they portray race. I think that Hollywood debases not only black culture, but American culture in general giving us brain dead television shows and movies that try for the lowest common cultural demoninator rather than reaching for something higher. When was the last time you've seen a quality movie? Hollywood is very profit driven. And because of this, they are very formula driven (as is the music industry). They will milk a formula until the public can't stand it anymore. A result of this is that Hollywood is very conservative. They will not take the risks to break new ground in any way. Given that black women watch more tv than black men (women watch more television in general today than men. The growing lack of young male television watchers is becoming an industry crisis), it makes sense that there will be less black men with white women on tv and in the movies. Denzel Washington could've done Julia Roberts in any of the movies, and in real life. Whether or not he actually did her in real life is beside the point. The point is that he doesn't want it public. There are other black American actors that are much more open to it, though. I also have an issue with the fact that Hollywood does not want to intellectually stimulate its audience. I have a problem with the fact that science fiction movies have moved from their original purpose during the golden age of scifi inthe 1930s and 1940s. Today, science fiction movies are just ordinary hollywood films with more technology in the storyline. While scifi was originally supposed to be intellectually stimulating and visionary, and was supposed to have social and political commentary, this has been totally removed from contemporary scifi. The original Star Trek and The Next Generation did good with these themes, but these began to decline with Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Indie films have been better in portraying IR between black men and white women. They have been better at showing a more realistic portrayal, and more that does justice to IR unions. And today, it is possible to create your own movie and distribute it at an affordable price. I know someone on here was talking about making a script for an IR sitcom. Using a digital camera, this can be done on a shoe string budget. Free software (both as in "free beer" and in "free speech") can be used to edit the movies, and there are many servers which would host the movie for free, or for an affordable cost. So perhaps, some people who are really interested could make a movie or tv show that is centered around a black man/white woman couple that portrays the relationship in a good light. Why wait for Hollywood to do this?
Well, simple, simple... WM have the most economic power! WM don`t like to see BM "pounding" WW on the screen... So if BM pounds WW, WM doesn`t pay to go see the film...or on "the other side" of the screen, WM doesn`t want to produce it! Now with regards to Denzel, as much as I like him as an actor, I also think he is ridiculous with his "fear" of IR...the guy sometimes sound like he is afraid to offend the mighty WM who rule Hollywood and this country! This is disappointing!! Wesley Snipes has had more ballz to do IR flicks (like ONE NIGHT STAND) but maybe that is why he doesn`t get any work anymore?!!
 If anything I maybe would agree more with Kid on his view of Denzel than him being afraid to do onscreen IR because of what the white man would or wouldn't think of it. That to me doesn't sound like Denzel at all just because he's NOT doing the IR stuff that most of us on this board would like to see him do. :!: As far as Wesley is concerned remember he's into dating out of his race and that shows in alot of the roles that he plays. He hasn't done anything since his last Blade flick so I'd like to see him back in the mix again soon.
Snipes is a cautionary tale. He had done IR in flicks before no problem, like "US Marshals" (at the end his wife was shown to be white) and "One Night Stand." But he offended BW with an interview where he said BW were "too much trouble." Now the brotha's straight to DVD. This is what Denzel is trying to avoid and doing a good job of it.
Realistically none of you know what Denzel wants to do. If I had a say, I'd say he's not obsessed about the whole interracial thing obviously; but who am I to speak for Denzel. He just seems like an impartial black man who does movies with memorable roles when the money looks good enough for him.
Snipes didn't go straight to dvd because of what he said about bm. He went straight to dvd because the crappy movie blade 3 and then bashing the creators and trying to sue them.
All that happened after Snipes' interview in '02 that criticized sistas. It was the beginning of the end I think. His problems with New Line wouldn't blackball him throughout the industry, it's gotta be another factor. After all, Blade 2 opened big. If his BW fan base in the US was still strong, he could have bounced back from Blade 3 (which I agree was shit). He did "Disappearing Acts" for HBO in between Blade 2 & 3 and the reviews I read in Essence and the like bashed him because of his views, not his acting. Soon after he was in DVD land. Put it like this, R. Kelly could very well be a pedophile but his BW fanbase loves him so he's hotter than ever point blank. Don't discount the fan base
I haven't even seen Blade 3 before, but I can tell you all that the first one was a lot better than the second one. Snipes can act, but he isn't always casted in the best movies. Good point about R.Kelly also. I guess he's just got the charm (along with the talented singing voice) no matter what, eh?
Exactly. Good point. Snipes had a great fanbase in black women but when he criticizes them, he lost all the fans which goes to tell you that his white fanbase is not exactly very huge then. But anyway, i like the R Kelly analogy. Its kinda like Allen Iverson; he's been accused of everything from gun possession to spousal abuse but his BW fanbase is probably the largest of any athlete so they still like him. Same thing with Terrell Owens. On the other hand, compare that to men like Kobe Bryant, Taye Diggs, Cuba Gooding Jr, Derek Jeter and Bryant Gumbel who have along the line lost so many black female fans(if they had any to begin with) for obvious reasons. No matter what they do, they can never regain them. Even if Kobe scores 200 points, 50 rebounds and 30 assists every game, breaks up with Vanessa and gets with a black woman, black women can never have love for him again. The same applies for the other men i mentioned. In their respective fields, they can not gain much BW fanbase again.
Here's another black man that gets no love from some bw who don't approve of his choice of a wife: Honestly, I don't see Clarence Thomas's views being any different from Condoleeza Rice's; but I know plenty of sistas who would vote Condi for President if she would run. Now Condoleeza has been rumored as being romantically involved with a white man, but she still gets love from bw. Question boys and girls: What's the difference between Condoleeza and Clarence? Peace. _____________ "It goes with the turf." - Clarence Thomas
