Dennis Rodman...Hall of Fame????

Sir, I was just playing with you. I love basketball and was a huge Bulls fan during that era. I kept up with all the Bulls' stats and accomplishments. My niece plays college basketball so unfortunately, I don't get to watch much regular season NBA now because of keeping up with her team and games. I would love to be arguing/trash talking in the NBA thread, but I'm afraid my NBA knowledge is lacking right now.

If I were a voter, I'd put a check next to his name. While Hall of Fame credentials are usually thought of in terms of offense, there are many Hall of Fame players who's name comes to mind when one solely thinks of defense. And Rodman certainly qualifies as an exceptional defensive player.

The guy lead the league or was in the top 5 in rebounds for many years throughout his career. His defensive skills were such that he could shut down many of the opposing teams best players no matter the position. Point guard to center, Rodman had it covered.

In generations passed, many players are lauded for their "trash talk". It's not just bragging. Trash talk is designed to get in the other player's head and prevent him from playing his game effectively. Dennis Rodman isn't the first player that would come to mind but I'd argue that he should be in the top 5. How else can you explain his ability to effectively guard a player like Shaquille Oneal who was 4 to 5 inches taller and had between 50 to 60 pounds in weight advantage?

Also, unlike Ron Artest, Dennis Rodman rarely if ever completely imploded when a playoff series or championship was on the line. In fact, he more often than not rose to the occasion by making baskets though he was rarely an offensive threat, steals, blocks and other miscellaneous plays that don't necessarily register on the stat sheet.

While the same can be said of someone like Robert Horry (Big Shot Rob what they call him!) who I'd argue against as a potential inductee, I'm one who has no qualms about saying Rodman is a Hall of Fame player.
