In a nutshell this sums up my emotions when I see heated political discourse, bent on one upmanship, rambling talking shops and name calling taking place, void of decorum in American politics today.

In the end who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. Worth remembering!

Its why I'm so ambivalent about the political atmosphere that exists in America today.

    Great stuff, GQ.

They don't call them "career politicians" for nothing. This is their career. Gotta keep the job alive.

    So freakin' true.

Which is why 500 years from now folks will still be talking about national debt, budget deficits and health care.

The author was on point when he stated, "Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them."

Well politicians don't appoint themselves. They are still elected officials, it's our responsibility to hold them accountable which few voters ever do.

Also, congressmen and women are beholden to special interest groups who actually write much of the legislation passed into law on Capitol Hill.
Our government is run by lobbyists and big money donors, everything else is trickle down.

BTW, a state can run on a balanced budget every year, but I think it would be near impossible to make a constitutional amendment that required the federal government to have balanced budget every year simply because of the sheer size/expenditures of the government.

    Exactly.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, the most important elections in this country are the elections where we elect the Congressmen and women and Representatives into office. They are the ones that have more power than the President. But the President gets all of the glory.

If people paid just as much attention to the ones that get elected into the House and Congress as they do to the Presidential election, we might actually see more positive change in this country.
