I don't hang out on this forum enough or view enough of the threads to know if this is indeed the case. If what you say is correct then that's unfortunate. That being said when I think about it I don't recall many of the women participating in the "In the Media" threads unless those threads dealt with movies, books, songs, etc. So I'm not so certain that the one dude arguing about "black male myopia" is on point. But, hey, whatever.


That being said I too have no interest in seeing this film. First of all I concur with the one gentleman who took issue with the title. It is unnecessary condescending as far as I'm concerned.

But the main reason I stay away is because of plot development/character developments I have learned regarding the movie. Supposedly the black male-white female pairing in the film is portrayed as a superficial one. The couple don't really seem to truly have any feelings for each other, not even complicated ones. Apparently they are only in such a hookup because of sexual stereotypes they have of one another, because of the status it brings them by being with each other and other non-substantial reasons. Of course the black male eventually has a revelation, breaks up with is white girlfriend and proves he is a real brother by hooking up with a black co-ed. Hmmm. Haven't we seen this plot development several times before? The one in which portrays any black male-white female pairing as being phony by nature. Aren't audience members tired of that bullshit by now?

And of course the militant black female DJ who starts all the fuss and repeatedly needles the white college students turns out to be having a secret relationship with a white, male TA (and probably a healthy relationship at that) and she comes from a loving family that includes a white daddy and a black mommy. :smt105 This is ultimate black female form of movie entertainment: putting down any relationship involving a black man and a white woman, seeing that black man finally come to his senses by finding himself a sista, and having another separate relationship involving a black female and some white dude. Hell, I'm not even dating a white chick and I find that sort of shit insulting. The filmmaker is a black gay male who makes a point of reportedly handling homosexuality in the film in delicate and fair way, but apparently have no interest in handling bm-wf pairings in an equally mature way. No thanks. I can go watch Jungle Fever again instead.

 

For real? I mean I concur with what you ae saying for the most part but it seems you are unaware of how this form of hypocrisy is common practice when it comes to folks who are sexually into people of a different race. White men have been like that for the longest time: they can love women of color while at the same time despising men of color. In fact they would put into practice certain unwritten rules which allowed them to quench their lust for women of color but bring death or harsh penalty towards the men of color who were their rivals or men of color who would even think about pursuing white women.

And black females? Don't get me started. The hatred many of them have for white women are out in the open more and more these days even as they increasingly discuss the idea of dating white guys.

I have a disdain for the white men who make accounts on this forum just to spew hate toward blacks. I have a disdain for the white men on any interracial youtube video who spews hate toward blacks. Just as I had a disdain for my ex-gf's white man father who did not even want me on his property to pick her up for a date because I am black, but I had a genuine interest in his daughter... much to his own disdain.

Again, it's not about being anti-white... it's about being anti-racist-toward-blacks. The fact that some of you see those as one in the same is just., outright laughable. I do welcome you to point me to a thread that I may have missed that was explicitly about disdain or hatred of white men,.

Edit: I WILL concede that there are quite a number of posts focusing on 'black issues'. More than normal recently, but instead of asking people to not post something that is of interest to them., EVERYBODY is free to post pretty much whatever the hell they want. If there is an IR topic of interest to you that would make a good discussion for the point, by all means... PLEASE post it. Posts like this are serve no further purpose than the posts that it condemns.

 

I get what you are saying however the whites here arent the enemy.

This should be a sanctuary for IR both groups. With various people come various thought processes and different journeys....the problem is when ww state theirs then their some who put it down.

We arent saying not to talk about the trayvons or the micheal browns....but not to put down the other group

Really, I think those types of threads need their own forum like the Mens Locker Room... I don't think they should be off the table for discussion, but maybe moved to their own little corner of the forum.

Being real though, I think the main reason this forum suffers from lack of threads dealing with interracial relationships is because interracial relationships really aren't that special. They're the same as any other type of relationship and the main discussion points around them are going to be A) Dealing with racists and how they view IR, or B) Stereotype bullshit.

Again though.,. every poster here is encouraged to CHANGE THE DIALOGUE. If you're unable or unwilling to do so, then what is the goal of complaining about what other people are talking about?
