Has anyone seen the flick Dear White People? It is a good movie and it does has IR. While I don't give detail but,it does have "Talking Black While Sleeping White".

I made my decision not to watch it just on the title alone. I said nothing good could come out of it. Either ir will be controversial or they are just asking for attention.I'll give it a go one day.

You could say the same about Roots or Malcom X
    Have you seen the trailers?

    No You can't.

The titles for roots and Malcolm X make no mention of white people. It isn't until you see the stuff that you understand what it is about.

    I've only heard interviews.
    I'll look at the trailer.

    I'll explain.
When you are looking at a movie, the title is often the first thing you read.

Malcolm X's movie does not literally have the words "white people" in its title. It won't look controversial to most people who read the title.
The same can be said about roots. I'm arguing that they could have had a better title name selection instead of dear white people.

It gives me the impression that it is
a)simply trying to draw my attention through race
    b) written by some one who has beef with white people
    c) since it addressed to white people I shouldn't care.

I would likely pick this movie up if I saw it at my library or blockbuster back in the day and read the back ever so slowly expecting for it to be racist. If it was, I would complain to the librarian about it.

Damn i remember renting movies for free at the library

    Fun times

Still....if a movie came out called dear black people, that dealt with negative ways blacks approach whites or other races (or whatever else that movie deals with)..I don't think it would last too long

yup as it shouldn't. I'd be the first to complain about it.

Various websites already have 'dear black people' threads or posts

Wouldn't be surprised if a YouTube video went up

That's over simplified thinking for one but it should draw your attention through race based on the message being tried to convey. The only thing I will argue is these kinds of movies ain't changing any minds. It just affirms the ideologies of people who already think the way the writer thinks.
No one who is racially insensitive is going to bother watching this and if they do all you're gonna hear is race card grumble grumble

When making decisions on what movies to watch, people often make decisions on the names and pictures nowadays and then the trailer. over simplified but realistic.

What is the purpose of the movie if it doesn't change minds? I thought race base movies were suppose to change minds.

Or depict the truth, Malcom X wasn't about changing minds just telling truth, same with Roots. Shit already happened but a more accurate view was needed.

but that is changing minds if you have a different idea of what it was.

There use to be a time when the women of this forum would feel welcome enough to come out and support a point like this......But as if they don't care anymore....One is only left to conclude either of two things:

1.)They have become completely weary of the same mantra

    or

2.)They are quietly giving up one by one and moving on
from what they regard as a hopeless condition of blackmale dominated myopia
