    A cute conservative gave me her number and Im bored, so I though id throw this question out there......

    Have any of you had a successful relationship(however you define it) with someone who differs from you politically? Idealistically, politics should'nt matter. But underneath the surface, the differences are more social than political.

    I dated a girl who was a conservative from Utah for awhile and we would get into heated debates but it didn't really affect the relationship. She made some valid points from time to time that made me realize I would never totally be a liberal.

    Both sides def have valid points. Unfortunately more often than not, folks arent dissecting issue by issue, policy by policy. They're aligning themselves with the group they identify with socially....and all the baggage that comes with it. Thats where I have a problem.

    Look no further than the strategic transformation the Republican party made during the civil rights era. Theres more to it than "what we do with our tax dollars"

    Just how she identifies herself. Good question none the less

    It's really tough

    I work in government consulting, so it's REALLY tough to date someone with differing views, because politics takes up such a big part of my life. I think I can differ on some particular issues, but we can't be on opposite ends of the spectrum (which doesn't even sound possible to me). I mean, what would a white woman with doctrinaire conservative/traditional viewpoints be doing with a man from outside of her racial/social/ethnic group in the first place? I know it can happen, but even then she would more likely be centrist or moderately conservative than an actual conservative with a capital 'C'.

    Well that's more of a difference between ideology more so than political stance. Its pretty much progressive vs conservative thought which both Republicans and Democrats happen to be its just now the Republican Party has been taken over by fear mongering propoganda. My thing has always been if you can back up your argument with logical thought then I'll listen to you.

    Like my ex presented the argument that she didn't want to pay more taxes because the Federal Gov rarely does anything efficiently. There isn't a lack of money just gross mismanagement. I had to agree.

    Can we see your teeth? It's something that everyone outside of England is fascinated with.

    @TastyAcidMilk

    But Tasty, you must be socially liberal at least in part, or you wouldn't be so anti-right wing yourself, right?

    I can't speak for myself because me and ex basically were politically liberal on a lot of issues, although she was more of a Hillary support and I'm a Barack supporter. But she also was pretty apolitical at the same time since she hated politics.

    However, I have a friend whose dad (black) is a registered Republican and the mother (creole white) is a Democrat and they're still together. My only guess is that they do not talk about politics at home. A prominent interracial political couple (William Cohen and Janet Langhart [white man (R) and black woman (D)]) have been together for a long time and while they are on opposite ends of the political spectrum, they still maintain a sense of moderation at home.

    Basically love is suppose to be unconditional, yes, but religion and politics almost always interfere with that aspect of a relationship and it could affect it dramatically if you allow it to be the forefront of your companionship.

    How would you identify your politics? Do you support the Tories? Liberal Democrats? Labour Party? British Nationalist Party?
