Pretty much the same in NY except here if you decide to drive when you go out parking is really pricey

that's the price of the homes in the area that I live (which is why I rent). Of course that changes with each area of Victoria. The people here in my area are mostly professional working men (think GM and up), have 2 cars, usually a housewife (most of the wives I see at school are in tennis skirts, gym wear or designer wear) who runs the home and drop the kids off at their various activities. Generally, the salary for say a Finance Manager is $57,461-136,304+, superannuation is on top of that and it includes the 4 week yearly holiday.

But it's not super cheap. I'd say a little more than Saty's. For example, I went to one of the better pizza places in IL (called Lou Malnati's) for lunch with 6 other people (my daughter being one). We mainly all had pizza (one person had a pasta dish, and another just ate an appetizer - 2 beers were drunk and our bill was $120. The cost of living in my town is 25.7% higher than the cost of living in Illinois and 19.7% higher than the national average.
