Hatred or Heritage? Either way the Flags problem has now reached Mississippi as Philip Gunn (Republican house speaker) talks of removing it from the Mississippi flag. This after South Carolina and while Walmart says they will no longer sell it. http://www.wdam.com/story/29381966/top-lawmaker-remove-confederate-sign-from-mississippi-flag
South Carolina to vote to remove the confedrate flag from the capital. Mofo about time Governor Nikki Haley is an Indian American, she is a minority, she should have this long ago
It boggles my mind how many of the flags of the South contain the Confederate Flag or the Confederate battle flag. I read a commentary yesterday and I have to wholeheartedly agree with this statement: "The Stars and Bars (Confederate battle flag) should be recognized not as a symbol of pride in a mythical past but as a symbol of hatred as odious as the swastika." Taken from this article: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...-dylann-roof-perspec-0622-20150619-story.html
Ive been listening to the conservatives radio showhosts and they are playing the middle. Its really funny to listen to them cause when the issue was up before, they were hard-liners. I want to call in and call them out for flip flopping but everyone is allowed to evolve.
Banning the confederate flag is going to make racists cling to it even harder. Banning it will also serve to reinforce their paranoid belief that Blacks, Hispanics, and gays are actually the ones oppressing them.
Now NASCAR is calling for South Carolina to take down the confederate flag from the capitol grounds. The GOP's top Presidential candidate for 2020 is Nikki Haley. What she did took a lot of political courage, more guts than anyone else in her party has. That's presidential. Although she did say a year ago.... Whoever wins the GOP nomination is going to BEG Nikki to be their VP. I hope she says no. All those candidates are losers.
NPR aired a spot yesterday evening about millennials believing that racism against whites is the most problematic racism in our new "post-racial reality". I'm waiting for her actions to fuel a race-driven attack against her from the GOP's rightwing.
This is a really terrifying statement. Talk about back to the future. Where are people who are born with White privilege in a country established and enshrined into law to benefit others who look like them getting the idea that racism against Whites has become institutional?? Where are they learning this nonsense??
They are learning it all over the place. Many of them don't think they have received any sort of white privilege and that the pendulum has swung the other way making it a detriment to be white. They say they struggle to get jobs in a really bad economy, starting out with major student debt, can't afford to move out, etc. There is no job security. And don't you know....Hispanics are taking over now and soon will be the majority. It's beyond people losing hope and belief in the "American Dream".....it's that for so long the Dream was an expectation for so many and now it's not. People become insecure, fearful, and desperate. My son was telling me the other day of the things he's been encountering on the net from 20 somethings regarding this topic and the murders in the church and all the crazy things that are being said.
Negroe please............... focus on your OWN. Hispanics and gays don't give a lovely fuck about you. "Hispanics" are so damn racist they ally themselves with the Aryan Brotherhood. Ever hear of the Nazi Lowriders??? Didn't think so. Pull the cotton sack from over your head and look at the real world, while you still can.
A tough economy and being saddled with huge debt coming out of college isn't racism against WHites. WTF. Be mad at the 1% and those corporations who are shipping manufacturing and jobs overseas. Be mad at globalization. Be mad at a Republican party that's never done ANYTHING to help the middle class. But don't blame reverse racism. Whites as a group are still the largest demographic in the U.S. and will be for the foreseeable future. No, there aren't more White people than all minority groups combined, like it used to be. But blaming racism against Whites for the reason worker wages are stagnant and meaningful jobs are hard to come by is the wrong fight. If there's racism against WHites and Whites are the majority of all CEOs and politicians, who the hell is being racist against them??:smt012 The sicko in South Carolina according to a friend shot up that church because a girl he liked chose a BM over him. I hope people aren't trying to rationalize this shooting as a desperate White person lashing out against the system.
I just think they shouldn't be on Federal and State grounds. But if private citizens want to wear them, purchase or whatever else that's their right and I don't want to infringe on that.
I completely understand. You asked where they are learning this nonsense. I told you. Those are things being said. The feeling/thought is any privilege (remember most don't even get that there ever was white privilege) is gone and now things are going against them. They hear it at home, in school, at the job, etc. These are things that are said when people get all comfie and stop being cautious about trying to be p/c. There's a lot of misguided anger for sure.
What hateful people feel about me and my race, is not the point I was trying to make. I'm well aware that there are Hispanics and gays who don't care for Black folks, I'm also aware there are a lot that do. I was merely pointing out that the people who embrace the confederate flag, are the same people who feel minorities (Blacks, Hispanics and gays...etc) are taking over "their" country.
I think it's both. The problem is that the heritage is one that subjected blacks to Jim Crow laws, KKK and such. My s/o (she's liberal) lived in rural VA, and her son... a very respectful 17 y/o has embraced some conservative values. I don't get into it with him, but I've explained my position regarding alleged wrong-doing by police, racism and such. He seems like a person who's open-minded, but I also understand that sometimes you are a product of your environment. That said... he's also of the belief that the confederate flag does not represent hate.
They're totally delusional, but the ability of fearful, paranoid people to follow demagoguery is very real. I'm going to leave the gross generalizations here alone, flaminghetero. We always disagree, anyway, about these sorts of things, especially the fact that black people figure significantly among both of the groups you singled out in the comment. I don't think he was focusing on homosexuals or Latinos, anyway, he was just pointing out this is the feverish, delusional view of whites who feel besieged or "set upon" by the non-majority. I agree with you. People have the freedom to be ignorant a-holes if they want. I don't care. I'm only focused on people impacting my life chances because of their ignorance. The fact that a group of people can be so unscientific and counter-historical, in the so-called "developed, industrial world" is unnerving. LMAO, your gif says it all. Regardless of what people think it means for them, the fact is that the surge in use of the flag in public and private displays is directly linked to anti-civil rights and anti-desegregation efforts.
That guy...in the video. I actually tried to watch some of his other videos and he's blatantly disrespectful to the women there, telling them that women should just shut up and cook and clean for their men. Normally I don't jump to such conclusions that people are brainwashed, but someone must have beaten him so bad that it caused a concussion in his ability to think.
